Job DescriptionFood Safety CoordinatorReports to:Quality Assurance ManagerDirect ReportsNoneRole PurposeThe Food Safety Coordinator will be responsible for the oversight of the food safety programs (i.e. sanitation, GMP inspections, pest control, food safety training, etc.). This position will report directly to the plant’s QA Manager.Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee plant sanitation, hygiene and GMP systems to ensure compliance with the Plant and Global Quality Policies, as well as, all applicable food safety regulatory requirements (Federal, State, and, Local)
  • Support operational and quality activities to ensure audit ready status every day.
  • Monitor the Master Sanitation program to ensure required tasks are performed on a timely basis. Provide scoring on these activities to Plant Leadership team
  • Plan, develop and implement Sanitation Standards and Goals for each area. In collaboration with the QA Manager, provide guidance to the Plant Management Team on matters of sanitation and hygiene as may be required to promote high product quality standard.
  • Inspect duties of contract plant janitorial and cleaning services staff
  • Audit sanitation records and procedures for process equipment.
  • Routinely audit food safety practices to objectively evaluate performance and provide feedback to other personnel, as necessary, to ensure compliance; This includes the auditing of SOP's, HACCP, GMP's, MSS and all food safety policies and procedures that apply to the plant.
  • Collaborate with the operations team to address all microbiological contamination sources through the upgrading of cleaning protocol, training, and sanitary design.
  • Oversee Pest and Bird Control Program to ensure proper controls within the facility; track trends and facilitate the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Assist areas with HACCP monitoring, verification, and validation; assist in HACCP deviation investigations and maintain all records for deviation investigations.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining the plant food safety training program. Provide training or training materials to all new employees and contractors, as required. Lead annual food safety retraining.
  • Perform as a back up to the QA manager during audits by certifying bodies, independent third parties, customers, internal, and regulatory entities. This includes being able to provide policies, procedures, and records for review by the auditor.
  • Assist the QA manager and production areas with the investigation of customer complaints, audit findings, food safety incidents, etc. Assist in the identification of root cause, associated corrective actions, verification of the completion of corrective action/preventative actions, and validation of the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Facilitate the investigation, documentation, and tracking of all food safety incidents to ensure incident investigations and corrective actions are performed in a timely manner and well documented. Assist in the investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions, and validate the effectiveness of the corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with Global and Plant QA Management on matters related to food safety and communicate changes to the plant’s operating team and others as necessary.
  • Other tasks as assigned by line manager.
The Recipe For Success:
  • Bachelors’ degree is required; Food Science or related discipline such as chemistry, biology or microbiology is preferred.
  • 3+ years of food plant sanitation, quality assurance or food safety management experience required.
  • Internal GMP auditing experience, training certificate preferred
  • Formal HAACP training certification preferred
  • PCQI certified, preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.
  • Creative/analytical problem solving skills and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
  • Microsoft office skills such as PowerPoint, Excel and Word
  • Solid systems understanding and ability to identify improvements needed
