We partner with hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, multi-specialty groups, and private practices to match talented individuals with roles that align with their skills and career goals.Position Overview:The Unified Fire Authority (UFA) is seeking a highly qualified and motivated Physician Medical Director to provide leadership, medical oversight, education, and quality improvement for our Emergency Medical Services (EMS) system. The Medical Director will oversee EMS training, testing, evaluations, clinical protocols, research initiatives, and quality assurance/continuous quality improvement (QA/CQI) to ensure the highest standards of patient care across the system. This position plays a critical role in shaping EMS education, advancing evidence-based care, and fostering professional development for EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics within UFA.Why Join Us?

Qualifications:
  • Education: MD/DO
  • License: Current physician license in the State of Utah (or eligible for licensure).
  • Certification: Board certification in Emergency Medicine or a related specialty strongly preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Experience in EMS, prehospital care, and medical direction.
  • Strong knowledge of QA/CQI principles, EMS protocols, and evidence-based medical practices.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Commitment to professional development, education, and research in EMS.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills.

Key Responsibilities:Training & Education:
  • Identify needs and develop/deliver continuing education for EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics.
  • Support personnel in maintaining required certifications and enhancing professional growth.
  • Participate in hands-on training, including airway, cardiac, hazmat, wilderness/austere, USAR/Heavy Rescue, and specialty response programs.
  • Lead monthly updates and case reviews for EMS providers.
Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement:
  • Design, implement, and oversee a comprehensive QA/CQI program to improve all aspects of EMS delivery.
  • Conduct electronic health record reviews, provider performance evaluations, chart reviews, and patient care audits.
  • Ensure protocols and practices are evidence-based and aligned with national best practices.
Protocol & System Oversight:
  • Regularly review and update EMS clinical protocols in collaboration with providers at all certification levels.
  • Provide consultation on system-wide QA efforts, audits, and performance improvement.
  • Advise UFA leadership on EMS-related public programs and initiatives.
Research & Professional Development:
  • Promote and support EMS research at the local and national levels.
  • Supervise research assistants with access to patient care records in compliance with HIPAA policies.
  • Attend local and national seminars, professional meetings, and CME programs to remain current with evolving best practices.
Medical Direction & Controlled Substance Program:
  • Serve as Medical Director for EMS operations, with authority to designate Associate Medical Directors as needed in areas such as pediatrics, tactical medicine, or hazardous materials.
  • Be named on state and federal controlled substance registrations and provide oversight for the controlled substance program.
  • Provide or delegate physician-level response within UFA’s service area, as needed and authorized.
