ASSISTANT PLANNING COORDINATORSALARY: 117- $45,798.00 minimum salaryDistinguishing Features of the Position (Summary)SUMMARY: (State Purpose and General Responsibilities)Under the supervision of the Planning Coordinator, this position will provide staff support for general planning, research, management (budgeting & accounting, and grant compliance of special projects, such as Operation Stone Garden (OPSG), other Homeland Security projects, and other related duties as assigned.SECTION I - ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (State the fundamental duties and tasks) * General project management of Homeland Security grants.
  • Assists in grant development.
  • Assists in program billing.
  • Provides staff support in program activities.
  • Performs project research and prepares reports.
  • Assists in researching grant funding.
  • Assists in the budgeting and accounting of Homeland Security OPSG projects.
  • Maintains project files as assigned.
  • Attends meetings and training when assigned.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
SECTION II-JOB REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (State the minimum requirements for formal education and job-related experience.)Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Public or Business Administration, Government, Criminal Justice, Sociology, or related field and three years of experience in program development and management, or criminal justice; or Master's degree in a related field and one-year experience in accounting, planning, and management of community projects and grant development. and administration. Experience in accounting and criminal justice is desirable. Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (As utilized in the performance of the Essential Functions of the job.) Working knowledge of the principles and practice of Public or Business Administration, Accounting, or Urban or Regional planning. Ability to conduct qualitative and quantitative research, understand and follow verbal and written instructions, work independently, work under pressure, and meet deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively in English and Spanish, detailed-oriented, operate standard office equipment, working knowledge of computer applications; and maintain working relationships with others and knowledge of law enforcement helpful.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: (Special licenses and other requirements necessary to obtain or retain the position)A valid Texas Motor Vehicle Operator's License is required. May be required to attend meetings or training workshops.SECTION III-JOB DIMENSIONSCONTACTS: (Nature of contacts, external relationships, and internal relationships).Has contact with public officials, county departments, local, regional, state, and federal agencies, community service organizations, service providers, contractors, consultants, and the public.RESPONSIBILITY: (Supervision, accountability, Safety. budgeting, spending authority, and confidentiality.)Reports to the Planning Coordinator or the designee.DIFFICULTY: (Judgment, initiative, and decision-making.)Independent judgment is required to interpret established project guidelines. Coordinate with staff for teamwork and decisions on project planning and work schedule.GUIDANCE: (Supervision received and level of independence.)The employee receives general direction when performing essential functions. Employee selects appropriate procedures required to complete work assignments.WORKING CONDITION: (Describe the working environment and other conditions of employment.)Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work but may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of objects and materials of lightweight (5-10pounts). Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstationsThis is a Civil Service covered position. Testing requirements will follow section 2.32 of the Civil Service Rules and Regulations Handbook.
