Position TitleHR GeneralistDelp PavilionPosition Summary / Career Interest: The UKP HR Generalist is responsible for various HR functions in the UKP HR Department. The primary responsibility includes the day-to-day HR Operations within the University of Kansas Physicians (UKP) which has 1,300+ physicians across 140 locations. HR Operations includes but is not limited to, benefit plan design and administration, retirement plan design and administration, FMLA and leave of absence administration, physician onboarding efforts, physician offboarding efforts, and leading various process improvement and project management initiatives for the UKP HR department.Responsibilities:
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
  • Performs benefits administration to include enrollment, distribution of Plan documents and required notices, COBRA administration, communicating benefit information to employees, and serving as a liaison with the carrier for unresolved employee questions and file feed administration.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day administration of assigned benefit programs, responding to emails and phone calls, processing of Qualified Life Events and reviewing, entering, and approving information in the benefits enrollment system and auditing current processes for data integrity and accuracy including but not limited to benefit file feed management.
  • Serves as a point of contact for the employee benefit program. Provides professional, administrative, and technical support for the Medical, Supplemental Medical, Dental, Vision, Flexible Spending Accounts, Life Insurance, Short Term Disability, Long Term Disability, Supplemental Life, Voluntary Benefits (Whole Life, Critical Illness, Home and Auto Insurance, Pet Insurance, Hyatt Legal, Identity Theft Protection), Employee Assistance Program and Employee Discount Programs.
  • Supports and participates in all aspects of the on-going and the annual benefits enrollment process, including but not limited to Employee Benefit Fairs, New Employee Orientation, production of collateral materials, production of the annual Benefits Guide, mailings, intranet postings, and employee communications.
  • Develops a wide variety of written materials in partnership with internal communications staff and external benefit consultants to provide written reference and convey information on the various benefit programs and options.
  • Continues to increase knowledge and remain up to date on benefit regulations and practices by attending periodic retirement benefit updates, seminars, webinars and reading professional journal articles.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment and complete required reports for example, preparing, and submitting the EEO-1 Report, PCOR Filing Fee, ACA, Affirmative Action support, disability census, etc.
  • Manage the relationship with vendors to facilitate FMLA companywide. Act as a liaison between leadership and employees with the vendors surrounding the FMLA process. Have a working knowledge of FMLA leave laws to provide guidance to leadership on employee work accommodations. Answer employee questions surrounding options under their leave.
  • Administer all Authorized Leave of Absences for employees companywide. Provide recommendations to leadership on the employee’s Authorized Leave of Absence guiding management on decision making for options with the leave while staying in compliance with the ADA and other laws and regulations.
  • Manage the working relationship with benefit carriers and broker on employee benefits specifically around Short Term Disability and Long-Term Disability.
  • Participates in developing department goals, objectives, and systems.
  • Lead special projects to support the Human Resources strategic vision.
  • Assists in evaluation of reports, decisions, and results of department in relation to established goals. Recommends new approaches, policies, and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of department and service performed.
  • Assist in development and implementation of annual financial wellness and retirement education and engagement calendar of activities to maintain and enhance participant engagement and expand availability of retirement information and education to employees by developing financial education/financial wellness strategy.
  • Maintains and enters data into Workday, and other data bases and spreadsheets.
  • Maintains employee retirement benefit records, databases, benefit files, the general HR File Room and manages off-site employee records.
  • Participates in departmental, staff and vendor service meetings.

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, Business Administration, or equivalent,
  • 5 years progressive HR experience including benefit plan administration.
  • Ability to read and write English
  • Must be fluent in English language.
  • Highest level of use of judgment and confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills, expert level user with Microsoft Office, expert user with retirement program software and other types of benefit management systems, proficient with maintaining various types of data base management systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal skills, strong analytical and interpretive skills, good interpersonal skills with an ability to work within a team environment and receive high customer satisfaction ratings, ability to handle work-related stress and thrive in a fast-paced environment, ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
