- Design, implement, and maintain high-quality data infrastructure to support business needs.
- Software engineering experience building fault-tolerant, distributed, and scalable automation.
- Create efficient, scheduled ETL pipelines and stewarding technical standards and quality.
- Ability to lead sophisticated tasks such as development of forward electric position, development of procurement plans, or the evaluation of alternatives for mitigating PG&E's risk exposure at the wholesale energy portfolio level.
- Design, implement, and support a platform in providing access to large datasets.
- Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, analysis, validation, documentation, and testing.
- Support strategy development via analysis and quantitative measurement.
- Drives continuous improvement processes.
- Participate in PG&E management and regulatory approval process for specific transactions.
- Researches and communicates emerging regulatory or policy issues.
- Bachelor's Degree with coursework in energy and environmental science, computer science, mathematics, engineering, or equivalent field of study.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant job experience
- Master's Degree
- Knowledge of wholesale energy markets, power/gas products (e.g., RA, Energy, GHG, CRR, LCFS), energy procurement contracts, energy trading, and regulations
- Familiarity with supply and demand side electricity markets including nuclear, hydro, fossil, solar, wind, energy storage, QF/CHP, biomass, GHG emissions and offsets, energy efficiency, demand response, and/or distributed generation.
- Advanced skill with MS Office Suite
- Programming capability, particularly in Python
- Developing analytics for optimizing operations in natural gas or electricity businesses.
- Researching and applying quantitative techniques in dealing with issues in natural gas or electricity businesses.
- Excellent knowledge of software engineering best practices (e.g. unit testing, code reviews, design documentation)
- Experience defining and implementing best practices and coding standard for ETL/ELT pipelines, frameworks.
- Experience with BI tools and Analytics Technologies (e.g. PowerBI preferred, Tableau, Looker)
- Database development experience and knowledge, with the ability to extract data from various sources (ie. SQL)
- Demonstrated experience with optimization techniques including linear programming and mixed-integer programming.
- Experience in applying these techniques to real-world problems, preferably in the context of the power market commitment and dispatch.
- Familiarity with formulating optimization problems and implementing strategies to solve them using Python (SciPy and Pyomo).
- Knowledge of various optimization algorithms and solvers, and the ability to select the most appropriate one for a given task.
