REGIONAL LITIGATION PARALEGAL

- Work closely with, and under the direction of, supervising attorneys on all aspects of medical malpractice claims and litigation, LARA investigations, and third-party litigation;
- Maintain the claims/litigation database and ensure reserves and other information is kept up to date;
- Generate litigation holds and preservation notices;
- Facilitate subpoena/deposition/meeting requests;
- Coordinate expert and treater witness reviews;
- Support the preparation and participation in assigned U-M Health risk related committees;
- Prepare and submit court filings as directed by attorneys;
- Triage legal and risk inquiries from U-M Health Regional Network employees;
- Organize and maintain electronic files and databases; and
- Other duties as assigned.
Work Experience • Minimum four (4) years of professional paralegal experience performing job-relevant legal responsibilities, such as experience with medical malpractice claims/litigation, litigation holds, and subpoena responses.
Education • Certified Paralegal or Bachelors degree in relevant field.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. • Ability to independently triage and respond to client inquiries and involve attorneys as needed; • Ability to communicate effectively with internal clients, outside counsel, and representatives of the legal system. • Highly organized, responsive, with strong project management skills and the ability to manage many projects with competing priorities and deadlines. • Strong attention to detail. • Excellent customer service skills. • Ability to conduct research using the Internet and Westlaw. • Computer proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and the ability to learn new databases easily. • Strict adherence to deadlines. • Highest degree of discretion when dealing with confidential information. • Courteous, poised, and tactful in the face of stressful and demanding projects and situations. • Proven productivity, tenacity, and follow-through in accomplishing assignments. • Positive and supportive to team members. • Committed to ethics, integrity, and compliance. • Excellent working relationships with colleagues, supervisors and clients. • Recognition that the University and the Office of the Vice President and General Counsel believe that diversity, broadly defined, is integral to excellence.
