Business Continuity Consultant (Contract - 20 hours/week for 12 months)
Location: Remote (Seattle, WA area preferred for occasional on-site work)Overview
We are seeking an experienced Business Continuity Consultant to support a complex, global organization in strengthening and maturing its Business Continuity (BC) Program. The consultant will work closely with operational, IT, and leadership teams to ensure that critical operations continue with minimal disruption, recovery capabilities align with organizational priorities, and response processes are documented, tested, and continuously improved.Responsibilities
Program & Tool Administration
  • Serve as the administrator for a business continuity SaaS platform, managing user access, templates, and permissions.
  • Provide training and support to new system users.
  • Develop and maintain reporting on program health, dependencies, and gaps.
  • Manage support tickets for the BC platform.
  • Coordinate closely with IT to align Recovery Time Objectives (RTOs) with system capabilities.
Business Continuity Documentation
  • Coordinate with departments to develop and maintain business impact analyses (BIAs), recovery plans, and incident playbooks.
  • Maintain ransomware incident response playbooks and appendices to ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Exercises & Testing
  • Design, coordinate, and facilitate recovery plan and playbook exercises.
  • Document and distribute after-action reports (AARs) with findings and remediation recommendations.
IT Disaster Recovery Alignment
  • Collaborate with IT teams to review disaster recovery (DR) strategies and ensure they meet BIA-defined requirements.
  • Identify and address gaps between IT capabilities and BC needs.
Program Maintenance & Reporting
  • Track BC program health metrics, such as plan completion, review cycles, and RTO alignment.
  • Prepare regular program status updates and executive summaries for leadership or governance committees.
  • Recommend strategic enhancements based on lessons learned, emerging risks, and best practices.
Incident Response Support
  • Provide coordination and subject matter expertise in the event of a disruption or ransomware incident.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years' experience in business continuity, disaster recovery, emergency management, or operational resilience.
  • Strong knowledge of ISO 22301, NFPA 1600, or equivalent continuity planning frameworks.
  • Experience with business continuity software platforms (e.g., Riskonnect, Fusion, Castellan, or similar).
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional planning and facilitate exercises in complex organizations.
  • Excellent facilitation, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Experience in philanthropic, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations preferred.
Contract Details
  • Estimated 20 hours/week for 12 months, with potential extension.
  • Remote role; Seattle area preferred for occasional on-site needs.
  • Benefits include multiple medical plan options, dental, vision, 401(k) with match, and paid sick leave.
  • US work authorization required. Sponsorship and Corp-to-Corp arrangements are not available.
Estimated Compensation Range: $80-$110 per hour. This range represents the estimated low end and high end of the compensation range for this position.
Location: Seattle area preferred, remote option possible for exceptional candidates
Length of Assignment:12 months (extension possible)
