Location: Kent Campus HospitalStatus: Full Time 80 HoursShift: EveningsSALARY RANGE: 54,808.00 - 82,201.60YEARLYGeneral Summary:Under the direction of the Manager, the Sterile Processing Supervisor will carry out the responsibilities for the overall workflow of the shift in Sterile Processing. Supervises activities involved in sterilization, decontamination, supplies, and case carts systems ensuring adequate instruments and supplies are available for use. Conducts interviews, staff evaluations, and maintains staffing schedules. Directs, plans and organizes the staff and activities of the Sterile Processing department. Ensures that best practices related to decontamination, sterilization, preparing and packaging of instruments are adhered to by staff. The Supervisor utilizes key performance indicators for trending areas in need of improvement.Department team members are authorized to have limited access to secured medication rooms to perform duties and responsibilities as defined in this job description. Any staff member requiring limited access to secured medication rooms must have a fully completed and signed Medication Security Agreement for Non-Licensed Personnel form on file and available upon request.Responsibilities:1. Supervises Performance Improvement initiatives and assists in quality audits. Develops and utilizes key performance indicators for trending and identifying areas of improvement. Makes recommendations for improvement as needed.
2. Responsible for developing, coordinating and organizing work schedule assignments for all technicians.
3. Develops systems to ensure that sterile instrumentation is available for surgeries, and ensures that returned instruments are in optimal condition.
4. Selects, develops, manages, and evaluates direct reports. Participates in the interview process for Central Sterile Processing Department applicants. Support the hiring process and mentoring of new employees.
5. Manages information utilizing appropriate manual and electronic systems.
6. . Supervises proper operation of equipment according to manufacture IFU and reporting of defects. Maintains operation statistics logs.
7. Develops, oversees financial management including: operating budget, supplies, equipment, space, additional staff, and information. Shares in the budgetary responsibility with the Manager/Director. Researches and reports on budget variances and monthly indicators i.e. quality, productivity, and efficiency.
8. . Ensures compliance and consistency with sterilization principles, standards and techniques. Responsible for enforcing to departmental quality control as required by the standards of TJC/JCAHO, AORN, AAMI on all sterilizers, including biological, chemical, and mechanical monitoring.
9. Collaborates with perioperative services, nursing directors/managers and surgeons on daily work-flow issues, and implements solutions where necessary.
10. Assists in corrective action process for Sterile Processing Department personnel. Counsels and evaluates employees within the department.
11. Enforces the policy and procedures of the Sterile Processing Department. Ensures the department and staff is compliant with applicable requirements of the organization, Federal, State and any other regulatory agency including, JCAHO/TJC.
12. Works with the Sterile Processing Department Educator to coordinate, schedule, and document trainings and other required educational requirements needed to stay incompliance.
13. Fosters management development plans by identifying areas that needs improvement through educational training.
14. Evaluates functionality of area workflow and processes.
15. Practices safety and Infection prevention methods at all times.
16. Works collaboratively with peers to achieve department goals.
17. Provides direct support and training for the Lead Technicians and staff to successfully meet the goals and vision of the department and organization.
18. Ensures the department and staff is compliant with applicable requirements of the organization, Federal, State and any other regulatory agency including, JCAHO/TJC.
19. Monitors methods and procedures for supply management, inventory control, and quality control.
20. Participate in the daily cleaning of the department.
21. Meet and maintain required productivity expectations.
22. Maintain patient confidentiality.
23. Participation in the morning (AM) OR Huddle, afternoon (PM) OR Huddle and daily hospital patient safety huddle.
24. Lean Daily Management (LDM) boards and quality dashboards maintained daily and reviewed with Sterile Processing Department (SPD) and Perioperative (OR) staff.
25. Partner with Perioperative Nurse Educator to make recommendations that provide continued education and improve staff clinical knowledge.
26. Partner with each site’s perioperative department to provide services to meet their needs; assessing the workflow with supervisors and implement changes as necessary.
27. Acts as liaison between Perioperative leadership and physician request for instrumentation to best meet the needs of our physician customer and meet our fiscal responsibility.
28. All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilitiesRequired Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

  • Credential(s): Certified Registered Central Service Technician
; Or CSPDT.
  • Experience:
Required: 5 years’ Sterile Processing experience. Working knowledge of all functions of the Sterile Processing department and surgical instrumentation management. 2 years Supervisory or Lead Technician experience in Sterile Processing Department. Preferred: 4 years Supervisory or Lead Technician experience in Sterile Processing Department. Prior Operating Room experiencePreferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience:
