
Senior Metals Engineer, Strategic Sourcing

- Transform the supply base through rationalization, re-sourcing, and risk mitigation activities by supporting supplier assessment and supplier development actions to drive compliance, risk management, cost, quality, delivery, and services targets.
- Partner with Category Managers to assess current supply base core competencies in the development of a long-term sourcing strategy of assigned categories.
- Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technological developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing.
- Proactively review supplier capabilities, assess operational gaps to identify risks and takes a systematic action to develop a world class supply base.
- Actively develops and coaches suppliers on how to meet CooperSurgical's quality system requirements and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) requirements to successfully complete validations.
- Act as a liaison between Supplier and Product Engineering on Strategic Sourcing projects designed to reduce supply risk and build a high-quality supply base to support future growth.
- Manages projects of moderate complexity
- Partner with supplier and Product Engineering to assure part to engineering specifications match, redline specifications and initiates engineering change orders as needed.
- Identify cost reduction opportunities in partnership with Category Managers, internal stakeholders and suppliers to meet year over year cost targets.
- Perform additional responsibilities or assignments as directed by management.
- Take a supporting technical role in negotiating supply agreements, statements of work, and pricing for goods and/or services.
- Develop a “should cost” model process for assessment of purchased components.
- Engage with supplier on design of new tooling to assure CooperSurgical's expectations for tooling are met on NPD and legacy products as needed.
- Identify insourcing and outsourcing opportunities in partnership with Category Managers and Operations manufacturing strategy; supports technical component in the make/buy analysis.
- Take an active supporting role in Supplier Business Reviews
- Perform additional responsibilities or assignments as directed by management.
- Proficiency with metal part manufacturing (stamping, machining, casting, forming) methods, tooling, and assembly processes.
- Working knowledge of medical device NPI or lifecycle management processes
- Demonstrated working knowledge of supplier controls, PPAP, process validation, failure investigation techniques, root cause analysis, corrective/preventive action procedures, and protocol/report generation.
- Ability to manage projects of moderate to high complexity
- Proficient with GD&T and interpreting drawings
- Computer Skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Smartsheet, PLM system, CAD (SolidWorks))
- Superb Oral and Written communication skills including presentation skills
- Works on-site at a Cooper Surgical manufacturing location (Trumbull, CT or Stafford, TX). Travel up to 30% is also part of this work scenario.
- Interacts with domestic and international suppliers frequently
- Travels frequently domestically and internationally as needed to support business requirements
- Occasionally lift up to 40 lbs

- 6+ years experience in metals manufacturing engineering/process engineering
- 3+ years industry experience in medical device manufacturing/engineering or other highly regulated industry
- 3+ years' experience in a supply chain engineer, supplier development engineer or supplier quality engineer capacity, preferably in the medical device industry
- Black Belt/Green Belt certification or Lean Six Sigma experience desired.
- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Science, or technical field
