Position Summary/Purpose of Position:The Application Database Administrator (DBA) is a member of Enterprise Data Services (EDS) in the Division of Information Technology (DIT) at the University of Maryland, College Park. The position has responsibility for providing comprehensive database Optimization and administration for enterprise level, cross-campus services .The position is responsible for:
  • Configuring and maintaining MSSQL (cluster on Prem, Azure, AWS) , Oracle , Postgres databases (AWS RDS) and Redshift data warehouse platform, including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery , security (audit), Optimization and SQL tuning.
  • Analyzing and guiding customers with T-SQL , PostgreSQL Queries for the Application requirements which includes writing of T-SQl and PostgreSQL
  • Providing 24×7 support for critical production systems. Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Working knowledge of AWS and Azure architecture, modern data stack and tools for the data lifecycle.
  • Implementing Python for data processing, scripting, and automation tasks. Integrate Python scripts with database systems, data lakes, and SSIS packages.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.Experience:
  • 4-7 years of related work experience,
  • 4 plus years of Database Administration experience primarily with MSSQL Azure, Oracle, Postgres and Redshift data warehouse platform.
  • 7 plus years configuring and maintaining MSSQL databases ( (including MSSQL cluster), including monitoring of database health, database performance, availability, deployment, backup and recovery, security (audit), Optimization, SSIS and T-SQL tuning.
  • Experience in Azure and AWS architecture, modern data stack and tools for the data lifecycle.
  • Experience in writing SQL queries , T-SQL scripts and python.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Working knowledge of AWS and Azure architecture, modern data stack and tools for the data lifecycle.
  • Skilled in T-SQL/PostgreSQL query tuning and Database Tuning, Analyze database performance reports and Recommend best practice for SQL code deployment in production environments for database optimization.
  • Must be able to work independently and concurrently on multiple projects, adjust rapidly to occasional significant changes in priorities, and respond efficiently and effectively 24 by 7 for critical production systems.

Physical DemandsSedentary work. Employee will need to be able to sit for long periods of time to work on a computer, as well as travel occasionally to meet with clients and customers on and off campus. Position also requires being on call to provide some outside of business hours support.
