Each member of the team is primarily responsible for ensuring the strong performance and continuous improvement of our automation systems, which are of significant value to the our refinery. You will collaborate with operations, maintenance and other departments to meet exciting challenges in your role as an Automation Engineer.Minimum Requirements:5 to 10 years of work experience, preferably in the oil and gas industryUndergraduate degree in Engineering, Applied Science or equivalentKnowledge of industrial automation and advanced process control technologyAllen Bradley programmable logic controller (PLC) programming experienceAbility to use the PLC to troubleshoot and determine problem source as well as understand how the PLC interacts with various field devices (relays, solenoids, valves etc)Previous experience in startup/commissioning of new PLC based systems as well as ongoing maintenance and support of installed systemsProficient in reading piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID) drawings and various wiring diagramsComprehensive knowledge of industry codes, company standards and safety policiesThe ability to communicate effectively and work within a team, and the desire to continuously learnMust be legally authorized to work in the USA for the duration of your employmentResponsibilities:Assess the performance of existing control systemsDevelop and implement control strategies to improve the performance and reliability of refinery operationsDevelop control strategies to optimize the performance of the production unitsUse advanced control software to implement unit optimization strategiesParticipate in new automation initiatives, bringing added value in terms of reliability, energy efficiency and optimizationEnsure the performance and continuous improvement of automation systems for alarm management and data acquisition and analysis applicationsProduce and present performance audits related to the process improvement and optimization strategies implementedCollaborate with external consultantsEnsure the compliance of our activities with applicable laws and regulations, corporate norms and standards as well as industry best practicesLocation and other Key Details:You will work out of our Commerce City Business Center, located at 5455 Brighton Blvd.Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with the potential for extended work hours based on business needsThis role is safety sensitiveIn alignment with Suncor’s value of Safety Above All Else, we conduct pre-employment drug testing, employment verification, education verification, background checks, and other pre-employment assessments as a condition of employmentSalary and Compensation Details:$120,000 to $140,000 annual salary and an annual incentive (bonus) programOur business professional roles follow internal compensation guidelines and the pay band will generally be based years of experience and scope of workGreat work/life balance, including a generous vacation programCompetitive benefits programs offering choice and flexibilityGenerous pension and 401(k) savings plansWhy Suncor?Suncor's operations include oil sands development, production and upgrading; offshore oil and gas; petroleum refining in Canada and the U.S.; and the company's Petro-Canada retail and wholesale distribution networks (including Canada's Electric Highway™, a coast-to-coast network of fast-charging electric vehicle stations).
