Job Category: Temporary Employee - ExemptDegree Level: Master's DegreeJob Description:Position SummaryThe Foreign Language Program in the Susanne M. Glasscock School of Continuing Studies offers courses in four eight-week sessions per year. The Glasscock School offers exemplary educational opportunities for the Houston community.The Foreign Language Program Instructor teaches part-time evening foreign language course(s) that meet in person on the Rice campus. These courses average 12 students per class. This position is eligible to teach one to four 8-week courses per session with a total of 24 contact hours per course. Instructors must be available to teach in the evening with session schedules assigned by the Director. The number of hours will vary, depending on the needs of the program. Compensation is based on instructional hours in the classroom.This is a part-time, non-benefits eligible position.Ideal candidates should have extensive skills and experience in teaching a foreign language to adults in a communicative setting. The ideal candidate is creative, has a passion for language teaching and enjoys working in a collaborative environment.Essential Functions
  • Teaches one of the eight foreign languages offered by the program on a schedule that is assigned by the Director.
Required Qualifications
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in the foreign language the candidate is applying for.
  • Minimum of one year's experience teaching a foreign language in a communicative setting
  • Native-level fluency in the target language
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills including the ability to set individual and classroom goals and to promote program goals.
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent classroom management skills.
  • Ability to use computer and AV equipment for classroom instruction required.
