- Effectively partner with other departments in the mill and create an environment of teamwork.
- Directs, maintains, participates in and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department, reviews safety records to uphold standards for all maintenance employees.
- Ensures all activities at the site are compliant with Mill, Company, State and Federal policies and guidelines as it relates to the safety of employees, contractors, and the execution of work.
- The incumbent in this role will possess the ability to create a culture of critical thinking and troubleshooting skills to build a platform of continuous improvements in the maintenance functions and overall mill operations.
- Support operations and maintenance efforts in solving recurring issues by conducting equipment failure root cause analysis.
- Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement. Responsible for the facility maintenance reliability programs and the development and planning for longer term improvements to these programs.
- Responsible for all preventative maintenance programs to include electrical, instrumentation, automation, controls, and mechanical. Initiates, implements and manages the maintenance program based on the Enterprise Process Asset Management model (EPAM), with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventative/predictive maintenance.
- Utilizes and maintains system for tracking work orders, PM's, monitor spare parts, and provide maintenance history of plant equipment. Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance performance indicators such as asset utilization, maintenance costs, PM/WO completions, etc.
- Ensures that maintenance employees are adequately trained, equipped and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
- Provides for training and development as well as coaching and counseling.
- Responsible for strategic long-term maintenance planning to include infrastructure monitoring and improvements.
- Ensure efficient utilization of mill manpower and contractors to include oversight of various long-term contract agreements.
- Responsible for all aspects of contractor safety process.
- Leads in a way that encourages employee engagement.
- Provide overall planning & coordination for annual maintenance shutdowns.
- Coordinate and work closely with Stores & Accounting to ensure adequate spare parts availability while optimizing overall inventory levels.
- Ensure compliance with insurance providers recommendations, environmental policies and procedures, and ensure that all city, county, state, and federal regulations relating to the maintenance department and mill facilities are met at all times.
- Manage the Capital Project process for the mill, in addition to managing multiple capital and maintenance projects.
- Responsible to develop competitive bid packages, monitor expenditures, develop and maintain project schedules, coordinate activities and resolve project issues.
- Bachelors in Engineering preferred.
- 5-15 years' experience in maintenance management, engineering or equivalent.
- Experience working in a unionized environment.
- Pulp/Paper manufacturing experience preferred.
- Ability to effectively communicate with technical specialists, management, supervision, and technicians.
- Ability to lead a multi-discipline team both as supervisor and in a technical capacity.
- Ability to operate effectively in the use of business tools including computers, e-mail and applicable software applications.
- Ability to put sustainable systems in place to track and report maintenance costs while working closely with accounting to forecast future expenses.
- Strong organization and communication skills with the proven ability to motivate and manage a team.
