The YMCA Early Learning Center – Colerain is seeking a passionate and energetic Lead School-Age Teacher to plan and lead engaging, developmentally appropriate activities for children ages 5–12 in our before- and after-school program. This role is responsible for creating a safe, supportive environment that promotes learning, creativity, and social development. - Develop and deliver age-appropriate lesson plans and activities aligned with SUTQ standards.
- Incorporate physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development goals into programming.
- Promote school readiness and enrichment during out-of-school time.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Ensure active supervision of children at all times.
- Follow all licensing and safety regulations.
- Use positive guidance strategies to promote respectful, responsible behavior.
- Encourage problem-solving and conflict resolution among children.
- Communicate regularly with families about their child’s progress and daily experiences.
- Participate in family engagement activities and events.
- Complete required attendance, incident, and behavior reports.
- Maintain documentation for SUTQ compliance, including lesson plans and assessments.
- Work closely with assistant teachers and other staff to provide consistent care and programming.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Follow Step Up To Quality requirements and center policies.
- Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts.
2. Meet all licensing requirements under the Depart of Human Services of the state and local governments.
3. Must complete and maintain current status in First Aid, Common Childhood Illnesses, Child Abuse Prevention and CPR.
4. Must possess and demonstrate ability to engage in all activities associated with the daily care, activities and routines of the program including but not limited to: interacting with children at floor level; physical education activities, field trips and swimming as needed.
5. Must possess visual, auditory, oral and written communication skills appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
6. Capable of directing the daily administrative, program related, and supervisory responsibilities of an Early Childhood Care and Education program.Nice To Haves
- Associates degree or CDA or have documented Career Pathways level 3
- Previous experience working with school-age children in a licensed child care or afterschool program
- Knowledge of Step Up To Quality (SUTQ) standards and Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) licensing rules
- Familiarity with positive behavior support and classroom management strategies
- Experience creating lesson plans and implementing age-appropriate curriculum
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with children, families, and coworkers
- Flexibility, creativity, and the ability to adapt activities based on children's needs and interests
- Comfort using educational technology or online parent communication tools (e.g., Brightwheel, ClassDojo)
