Job Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of sewage pumping stations and associated equipment.
  • Maintenance, and repair of centrifugal pumps, pneumatic ejectors, and other piping accessories.
  • Schedules testing of equipment to ensure proper operation; checks inoperative or malfunctioning equipment to find source of trouble and arranges for repair or replacement.
  • Inspects facilities and machinery according to established departmental procedures; records data from control panels and other documentation, as required.
  • Greases, repairs, and maintains sewer pumps; assists the Pump Station Maintenance Lead worker in various related tasks, as assigned.
  • Drives City trucks to and from pump stations.
  • Cleans and maintains sewage tanks and valves.
  • Operates pump stations manually when pumps are shut down for repair.

  • One (1) year of experience performing general laboring/manual work, good physical condition, and the mechanical aptitude and ability to work with power and hand tools.
  • OR: A combination of education/experience/training which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.
License, Certification and Other Requirements
  • Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.
A successful candidate will possess some or all the following:
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Ability to read and interpret sewer maps, pump maintenance manuals, and department, OSHA, and WISHA safety regulations.

Work Environment/Physical Demands:
  • Required to be on call 24 hours/day to respond to emergency situations.
  • Required to lift heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Requires handling or working with toxic/hazardous substances.
  • Requires working around unsanitary live sewage, and sewage gases.
  • Required to work in all types of weather, around heavy traffic and large construction machinery, and in pump stations located underground.
