- Adheres to all Company Safety and Health Policies while in the course of conducting Company business.
- Be indentured in a Training program that is registered with the Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training or if applicable, a State Apprenticeship Council so as to learn, through a written contractual agreement and an established curriculum the knowledge, skills and abilities of a “Journeyman Lineman”.
- Shall attend training classes as prescribed by the Training Department.
- Works under the direct observation of a Journeyman Lineman and/or other Supervisor to assist the Journeyman Lineman and/or other Apprentice Lineman in the installation, maintenance and repair of electric-power generation and distribution equipment, underground cables, and related facilities.
- May be required to work on or near energized parts, but only under the direct observation of a Journeyman Lineman and/or a Journeyman Lineman Foreman.
- Required to hang travelers from poles or towers.
- Capable of operating most const. equipment booms etc. if needed.
- Capable of using plumb bob and pulling guy wires on angle and dead end structures.
- Capable of climbing and handling 6 or 9 ton hoist, 60 lb. grips, or sleeving press from poles or towers.
- Capable of hanging and operating carts for spacing bundle conductors.
- Required to assist in setting guard poles, string lead line, and string cond.
- Assist in sleeving, sagging, clipping, and dead ending conductors, shield wires and fiber cables.
- May also perform the duties of a Groundman and/or an Operator and other duties as needed.
- Apprentice Lineman working on Energized parts shall be as follows:
- Apprentice Lineman – 1st year and 2nd year: 0 to 601 volts while under direct supervision of Journeyman Lineman and/or Journeyman Lineman Foreman
- Apprentice Lineman – 3rd year: All voltage (using rubber glove and hot stick method) while under direct supervision of Journeyman Lineman and/or Journeyman Lineman Foreman.
- Apprentice Lineman – 4th year: All voltage (using rubber glove and hot stick method) while under limited supervision.
- May be required to relocate as work requirements demand.
- May be required to hold a valid class “B” commercial driver’s license.
- May be required to obtain light crane certification for boom trucks etc.
- May be required to read and interpret blueprints.
- Drives and operates conveyance machinery equipped with tools and materials to job site.
- May work in storm restoration operations to rebuild and/or repair damaged power systems.
- May attend training classes or seminars to gather knowledge of new processes, safety regulations and/or refresher training.
