We are currently looking for a Global Advocacy Specialist to join our team and rise to the challenge of empowering service.Position Highlights:
Support the Manger of Global Advocacy in building Lions’ and Leos’ capacity to advocate and ensuring the effective delivery of the organization’s global advocacy strategy by utilizing four focus areas – creating awareness/engagement; legislative/public policy; events and partnerships. This role will focus on the empowerment of Lions and Leos to advocate at the country, district and club level Also be responsible for the day-to-day operations of global, large-scale advocacy and partnership events such as Lions Day on Capitol Hill and providing support and capacity building for country-level advocacy events. In addition, this position will coordinate the efforts of external government affairs agencies and Lion Liaisons to international government and non-governmental agencies and organizations.What You’ll Do:
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of LCI’s advocacy strategy, as well as developing and providing resources to empower Lions and Leos to advocate for the causes they care about.
  • Develops community awareness and education programs for LCI’s global causes.
  • Coordinates the efforts of LCI’s government advocacy firm in Washington D.C., whose goals are to:
  • Build relations with government agencies and lawmakers.
  • Establish global cause champions within the United States Congress.
  • Identify legislation and policies that will support LCI, Lions and Leos to operate more efficiently and advance our mission and impact by influencing the outcomes affecting the lives of the those served by LI.
  • Assist LCI and LCIF in seeking government funding streams for Lions programs. • Complete applications in conjunction with LCIF staff for government grants and ensuring reporting and compliance related to such activities.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day operations of global, large-scale advocacy and partnership events such as Lions Day on Capitol Hill. Coordinates with other LCI/LCIF departments to plan and execute events. Works with external parties regarding details related to each event.
  • Coordinates with Finance and Legal Divisions to report lobbying, government funding and other accounting matters.
  • Elevates the profile of LCI/LCIF and develops resources to help Lions and Leos serve their communities by creating and expanding partnerships.
  • Conducts desk-based research and analysis to develop policy papers for both internal and external submission to governmental and non-governmental agencies/organizations.
  • Maintains department email boxes and communication.
  • Develops/coordinates joint advocacy projects with key stakeholders as required.
  • Coordinates with internal and external clients to identity their needs for a successful event.
  • Tracks expenses for advocacy and partnership events, advocacy resources, government relations, partnerships and other advocacy efforts and initiatives to adhere to approved budgets and identify cost saving opportunities, when possible.
  • Cooperates with marketing to promote resources and events.
  • Conducts pre-and post-event evaluations and reports on outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with insurance, legal, health and safety obligations.
We’re Looking for Someone With:
  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from a four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in governmental affairs and the development and implementation of advocacy strategies, preferably in a non-profit capacity.
  • Working knowledge of the United Nations System and the Sustainable Development Goals.
  • International experience is preferred.
  • Ability to travel internationally; approximately 25% annually.
