The primary goal of this position is to assist and support site-based administration and the MME Department with the coordination and implementation with fidelity of the MME Programs at the high school level, which include: Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) and Dual Language (DL). These responsibilities include but are not limited to, supporting the following areas related to multilingual and/or Dual Language students: content and language development, including the acquisition of English language skills; bilingualism and biliteracy development; standards-based learning and assessment (SBLA); and culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogy. This is NOT a supervisory position and DOES NOT include evaluation of colleagues.Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination of district and state standardized testing for the MME/Dual Language Program, including the ISBE’s prescribed screening instrument, ACCESS, SAT, AP Spanish Culture and Language exam, etc.
- Coordinate placement of eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh, and twelfth-grade students in the MME/Dual Language Program, including but not limited to completing the ESL Placement spreadsheet, using multiple data points for decision-making, etc.
- Communicate with MME Middle Schools for placement and transition planning, as well as other MME/DL related matters, as needed.
- Monitor records, U-46 Instructional Clarity and SBLA practices, progress, and grades of MME/Dual Language and exited/reclassified students.
- Collaboratively review data of EL students and DL programming, as well as MTSS implementation of multilingual students with school/District staff, to assist with determining appropriate supports and interventions.
- Support the submission of proposals for supplementary programs and materials, such as Leadership Camp.
- Assist in the coordination and monitoring of before or after-school programs under Title III.
- Organize and facilitate, as needed, bilingual/dual language parent meetings and in-services.
- Support in the coordination and implementation of outside support programs for the MME/Dual Language Program.
- Plan, facilitate, and/or provide professional development in collaboration with the AP of MME, Network/School-Based coaches, District Teacher leaders/coaches, and/or the MME Department in support of Department/District/School professional growth initiatives (included but not limited to Professional Practice Days, School Improvement Plan days, before or after-school sessions; as needed)
- Meet with teachers to discuss data trends and support them in planning for instruction that will most impact student performance.
- Mentor and support new MME/Dual Language teachers in providing culturally and linguistically responsive instruction, including research-based MME/Dual Language instructional strategies.
- Provide direct support related to Dual Language implementation to teachers with implementing the Spanish Language Arts and Latino/a/x Studies curriculum frameworks, ESL, and aligned instructional resources within the learning environment.
- Support in identifying and obtaining culturally and linguistically appropriate resources for teachers and students, as needed.
- Assist with discipline issues related to multilingual/Dual Language students.
- Be a resource and liaison for the teachers, parents, principal/building administrators, staff, and students outside of the program in supporting an inclusive, strengths-based, bilingual, and multicultural school culture and learning environment.
- Assist school service teams with identifying and supporting multilingual/Dual Language students who may have exceptional needs.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and/or revision of the district curriculum for the High School MME/Dual Language Program, as needed.
- Support the district’s Curriculum Cycle as an MME representative by participating in curriculum writing/instructional resources committees, as needed.
- Assist the principal/building administrator with the staffing process, as needed.
- Participate in school and district leadership teams and committees.
- Assist and/or coordinate translation of written and oral communication to parents and students.
- Establish a cooperative working relationship with the school’s staff, principal/building administrators, MME/Dual Language/general education teachers, and students.
- Prepares for assigned tasks and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of supervisor.
- Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by laws and district policy.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes and/or performs or provides assigned duties and services in the locations and at the times designated including: in-person instruction, hybrid instruction, asynchronous and/or synchronous instruction.
- Makes provisions for being available to students and parents for education related purposes.
- Perform related/other duties as assigned.
- Illinois teaching license with high school and ESL and Bilingual endorsement required.
- General Administrative Endorsement preferred.
- Master’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 4 years of successful teaching experience for the grades to be served.
- Have a strong knowledge base of and experience working with emerging bilinguals.
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge of fundamental principles of MME/Dual Language teaching and learning, as well as Tier 1 core instruction.
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge of district, state, and federal requirements for multilingual students, as well as content and language standards (e.g., CCSS, ELDS, SLDS, etc).
- Demonstrate strong communication skills in English and Spanish both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in coordinating and administering district and state assessments for multilingual/Dual Language students.
- Demonstrate understanding of the MTSS process and intervention for multilingual/DL students.
- Demonstrate computer literacy, including the use of Excel spreadsheets.
- Demonstrate knowledge in selecting and implementing instructional materials for multilingual learners.
- Demonstrate the ability to analyze student data/outcomes to assist teachers as they accommodate and scaffold instruction to support language and academic development.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and efficiency in meeting deadlines, as well as detail-oriented and responsive.
- Demonstrate professionalism by managing time effectively, working with stakeholders (administrative staff, teachers, coaches, and students), and engaging in continuous learning.
- Ability to stand and sit for prolonged periods.
- Occasional physical exertions to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
