- B.S, M.S. or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from accredited university. Aerospace, Nuclear, and Civil Engineering degrees are also considered.
- Minimum of 10+ years of related experience with a B.S. degree, or 6+ years with an M.S. degree, or 3+ years with Ph.D. degree.
- Proficient in finite element stress analysis, mechanical analysis methods and commercial mechanical stress analysis and modeling tools with emphasis on ANSYS and SolidWorks.
- Coordinate input and requirements from Engineering and Project teams to support production of fire hazard analysis and related design and analysis input
- Ensure that fire protection licensing and code requirements are clearly established and implemented in the design
- Review and develop fire protection design bases for nuclear island structures, with consideration for extreme fire hazards such as seismic-induced fires, large area sodium fires, wildfires, and fires within sodium containing structures
- Support and review plant design cost studies and engineering decisions
- Coordinate checking and integrated design reviews, including in-process cross-discipline work, for fire protection work products
- Research and develop risk-informed, performance-based methodologies for fire protection design and analyses
- Support monitoring and appraisal of design organizations, partners, contractors, and subcontractors' performance
- Coordinate and lead planning efforts and maintain schedule adherence for fire protection design activities
- Support design reviews and resolution of cross functional technical concerns
- Support the integration of plant information into fire protection licensing basis and regulatory submittal documents
- Support fire protection licensing activities associated with licensing applications
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with creative thinking abilities
- Experience in Fire Protection Program development and implementation
- Experience in multi-discipline and multi-organization design integration
- Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills • Attention to detail and aspiration for technical excellence
- Ability to handle projects with competing objectives and design constraints
- Ability to work on simultaneous tasks requiring a multi-disciplinary approach
- Experience working to quality standards on design activities, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001
- Ability to work with minimum direction to solve challenging problems
- High degree of trust and integrity with open communication skills
