Job Title: Senior Systems EngineerLocation: Albuquerque, NM (Onsite)Responsibilities of the Senior Systems Engineer:
McLane Advance Technologies is seeking a results-oriented, self-motivated Senior Systems Engineer to support both systems engineering tasks as well as day-to-day management of a small IT service desk for a Department of Energy (DOE) contract in Albuquerque, NM. The Senior Systems Engineer will play a key role in integrating and managing cloud services, COTS software, and robust security practices.The Senior Systems Engineer will:
  • Demonstrate strong server experience, networking fundamentals, and storage administration skills as well as the virtualization of those technologies, as it pertains to VMWare vSphere, along with familiarization with hyper-converged infrastructures.
  • Develop and manage the overall operation of a small IT service desk.
  • Collaborate with service desk staff and upper management to develop and implement new processes and procedures.
  • Build and maintain the following systems: RHEL 7, Windows Server, Windows 10/11.
  • Understand networking and distributed computing environments, including hybrid cloud architectures.
  • Partner with application developers as well as server and network engineers, especially in an Azure DevOps environment.
  • Be able to create and clone processes across multiple environments, including those within Azure.
  • Support and implement multiple virtualization technologies (i.e., VMWare, Cisco Hyperflex, Hyper-V, etc.) as well as preferred experience in hosted cloud technologies (i.e., AWS, Azure, etc.).
  • Write policy and system descriptions describing how multiple environments work together, including interactions with COTS software and Azure services.
  • Work on Networks, Servers, and Storage cores, encompassing on-premises and Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Be knowledgeable in Scripting (Python, PowerShell, etc.) for automation and management, especially within Azure and for COTS software.
  • Develop and apply standard configuration templates to all assigned devices, and update inventory and topology records during moves, adds, and changes.
  • Coordinate with other IT team members to deliver systems and services, including working with vendor support for COTS software solutions.
  • Actively be involved in the development of virtualization roadmap and strategy for the organization, with a strong focus on Azure cloud adoption and integration.
  • Review log events and operate network management applications to perform fault detection, identify performance metrics, and generate reports to support specific service level requirements.
  • Manage vulnerability management processes utilizing tools such as Tenable, Ivanti, and SolarWinds.
  • Implement and maintain Azure services and resources, ensuring secure and efficient operation.
  • Work within an Azure DevOps framework for continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Manage the integration, configuration, and support of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software solutions.
  • Liaise directly with vendor support for COTS software and other third-party solutions to resolve issues and implement new features.
Required Qualifications:
  • DOE Q security clearance or DOD TS equivalent is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Security, or related field.
  • 5+ years performing virtualization in cloud, hybrid, and hosted environments, with significant experience in Azure.
  • 5+ years of designing and implementing solutions, including experience with Azure architecture, Linux, and COTS integrations.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and be capable of writing proposals, acting as a vendor liaison, and making presentations to senior management.
  • Prior experience in a service desk role.
  • Demonstrated experience with vulnerability management tools such as Tenable, Ivanti, and SolarWinds.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps for managing software development and operations.
