
Shipboard C5I Networking Engineer, Subject Matter Expert

- Lead the design, integration, and management of shipboard or land-based network architectures.
- Oversee the implementation and maintenance of network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cabling on Coast Guard vessels and systems.
- Apply advanced knowledge of routing and switching protocols to optimize network performance and reliability.
- Apply knowledge of and experience with engineering principles and techniques, to develop and evaluate moderately complex technical reports related to application of C5I systems onboard USCG ships.
- Review and evaluate the effect of new and/or modified electronics on overall system performance.
- Review and adjudicate system design specifications, test requirements, Departures from Specification (DFS's), Request for Waiver (RFW), Engineering Changes (EC's).
- Review design review comments submitted by junior engineers and advise decisionmakers on considerations for high impact and critical design review decisions.
- Provide leadership and coordinates review efforts for verification and validation work for Networking related work efforts in the Electronics Engineering discipline.
- Provide mentorship to junior engineers related to the area of shipboard networking design and analyses.
- Bachelor’s degree in Networking or Network Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- At least fifteen (15) years of recent, relevant professional experience in Network or Electronics Engineering disciplines.
- Experience should include at least ten (10) years of experience in developing, integrating, and managing shipboard networks or land-based networks with experience in network infrastructure, routing and switching protocols, network optimization, network security, network storage, and automated network management.
- At least one (1) year of experience related to U.S. Federal ship or boat building acquisition programs.
- Meets required DoD IAT Level II baseline certification requirements. To meet this requirement, you must already possess at least one of the following certifications:
- CCNA Security
- CySA+
- GICSP
- GSEC
- Security+ CE
- SSCP
- CASP CE
- CCNP Security
- CISA
- CISSP (or Associate)
- GCED
- GCIH
- Knowledge of USN, USCG, ABS and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations.
- Proficient with common productivity software.
- Strong communications skills.
- Master’s degree in Networking or Network Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
- Experience with shipboard and defense C5I systems.
- Relevant professional certifications, such as:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
- DHS Systems Engineering certification.
- DHS Program Management certification.
