SDE is seeking a technically strong and licensed Professional Engineer who is ready to take on leadership responsibilities and transition into a Project Manager role within 1–2 years. The ideal candidate has 8–10 years of hands-on civil design experience and a deep understanding of engineering principles, permitting processes, and land development. The initial job function will be focused on production of high-quality design and lead to project management and coordination with other consultants, SDE team members, and clients. The Project Engineer will report to the Engineering Supervisor and be able to manage projects and budgets. Dependent on performance, ability to win projects, and leadership abilities, there are opportunities for advancement into ownership of the company.Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical lead on a variety of civil engineering projects, primarily in land development and public infrastructure.
- Responsible for the site grading and drainage, stormwater management, water and sewer utilities, and roadway improvements.
- Stamp and sign plans prepared under the technical supervision of the Project Engineer
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and design standards.
- Responsible for construction documents, engineering reports, cost estimates, and specifications.
- Mentor and train lower-level staff to produce quality engineering plans and exhibits
- Coordinate with clients, agency staff, architects, and other consultants.
- Assist with project planning, budgeting, scheduling, and proposals.
- Receive training for project management skills
- B.S. in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited school.
- Maintain a current California Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Minimum 8 years of civil engineering experience, preferably in land development and public infrastructure. Experience with Public Work projects is a plus.
- Proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Microstation is a plus
- Strong understanding of California design codes, permitting, and entitlement processes.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, verbal and written.
- Demonstrated leadership potential and interest in project management.
- Previous work experience at a small firm is a plus.
- Experience working directly with public agencies and reviewing authorities.
- Ability to balance multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Desire to grow into a client-facing role with full project oversight.
