  • You will operate gasoline or diesel powered truck-tractors.
  • You will operate straddle trucks, stake trucks, fuel tankers, and occasionally lighter or heavier vehicles with gross vehicle weights of more than 32,000 pounds for hauling material, equipment and/or personnel.
  • You will drive truck-trailers with trailer or semi-trailer coupled by use of turntable or pintle hook, or any “double bottom” combination such as truck and trailer, or tractor, semi-trailer, and trailer.
  • You will Operates a two-way radio and at times required to assist the Radio Dispatcher.
  • You will operate vehicles either on a specific trip basis or upon a regularly established schedule.
  • You will receive specific assignments from the dispatcher, work leader or supervisor and on occasion may also operate forklifts up to 27.5 ton capacity.
  • You will perform preoperational checks of assigned vehicle.
  • You will keep trip mileage records, report any defects in vehicle operations, accidents, damages or traffic violations, and be responsible for vehicle cleanliness.
  • You will be required to transport nuclear waste containers, liquid waste tanks and other radioactive material within the shipyard and on state and city roads.
  • You will serve as a key responder in emergencies and are subject to be on-call 24 hours a day/7 days a week.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.

Occasional heavy exertion is required. Work requires frequent sitting, kneeling, crouching, stooping, climbing, cramped or awkward positions. Other physical requirements include visual acuity, color vision, depth perception, close hand-eye-foot coordination, finger dexterity, keen hearing and sufficient strength to meet the demands of equipment operation. Operators exert moderate physical effort in operating turning, backing and controlling vehicles which carry heavier loads, climbing on tractors to hook up service lines, lower landing gears, and climbing on the trailer to load or tie down cargo.Operates vehicles in all types of traffic on public roads and at highway speeds.This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements.
