RCM is looking for a Deaf Hard Hearing Teacher to provide IN PERSON services to middle and high school students in the Santa Clarita, CA area. Services would be provided during the school day, within the school. Travel from school to school throughout the day.POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Special Education Teacher provides individualized education programs to students. The teacher is responsible for developing, implementing, and relating the daily activities of the students to the core curriculum. Through continuous collaboration with a variety of individuals and groups, including parents, district and county personnel and various agencies, the Teacher provides for the academic, social, and emotional growth of each student by using a variety of instructional strategies. The Teacher continually assesses students’ progress to maximize their fullest potential. For the current assignment, the Special Education Teacher, Deaf/Hard of Hearing provides individual education programs for students who have been assessed as having mild to profound hearing disorders, which cannot be remediated, in other Special Education programs or in the regular classroom.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Provides supervision for all children;
  • Develops daily instructional plans, including Individual Education Plans (IEPs);
  • Interacts with parents, district and county personnel and public agencies;
  • Assists students in age-appropriate activities and behaviors;
  • Assists in the coordination of student’s general education program;
  • Maintains accurate student reports and current records;
  • Provides individualized instruction to students;
  • Monitors student progress;
  • Prepares various forms of correspondence (including parent notifications and administrative requests);
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Experience teaching or student teaching special education students, working on student IEPs;
Skill in interpreting audiograms, checking hearing aids, American Sign Language and auditory/verbal techniques used with deaf/hard of hearing students, preparing and maintaining reports and records;
Knowledge of standardized language assessment instruments, their administration and interpretation; psychology of the deaf, their community and culture;
Ability to work independently and with others, maintain appropriate records, work and communicate effectively both orally and in writing, maintain a flexible schedule, operate office machines and equipment, travel to various locations.
Physical Abilities include some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; some stooping, kneeling, crouching and/or crawling; hearing, speaking, observing and significant fine finger dexterity. Specific abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Generally, the job requires sitting, walking, and standing and the ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds.
The job is performed under minimal temperature variations, a generally hazard free environment, and in a clean atmosphere.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Valid California credential authorizing service to students with Deaf/Hard of Hearing disabilities OR the ability to obtain such a credential OR the ability to obtain an added authorization to service students with Deaf/Hard of Hearing disabilities, to a valid California credential authorizing service in Special Education.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience working with students providing services for Deaf and Hard of Hearing services
  • One (1) year of successful experience in a California school district or County Schools Office;
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
