Position Summary:
The Respiratory Therapist must be able to perform all duties and functions of the Respiratory Care Department assigned to him/her by the Department Manager/Supervisor. The Respiratory Therapist must be capable of serving as a resource of knowledge to the physician and other members of the health care team in relation to the technical aspect of Respiratory Care.Essential Functions:The Respiratory Therapist must be able to deliver Respiratory Care in an effective and safe manner. The Respiratory Therapist shall be knowledgeable of theapplication of mechanical ventilation to include continuous positive airway ventilation. The incumbent shall be knowledgeable of side effects of such therapy andbe prepared to take appropriate action to correct such adverse reaction. Must have extensive knowledge of equipment used to deliver respiratory care. TheRespiratory Therapist must be able to collect and evaluate pertinent clinical information by inspection, percussion, auscultation, and patient interview. Theincumbent must be able and willing to recommend the collection of additional pertinent clinical data such as arterial blood gases, pulmonary function test, etc.He/she must be able to discuss with the prescribing physician the appropriateness of prescribed therapy and to make suggestions when indicated as to the type oftherapy that may be effective.Staff Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) may take orders over the telephone from licensed physician. Write them in the patient'smedical record as per Medical Staff Bylaws.II. The following activities are unique to this position:A. Intermittent positive pressure ventilation.B. Humidity/aerosol therapy.C. Medical gas administration.D. Administration of aerosolized medicationE. Bedside and Pulmonary Function Test.F. Incentive spirometry.G. Chest physiotherapy procedures.H. Assembly and cleaning of equipment.I. Continuous ventilation.J. Airway care.K. Emergency care - such as CPR.L. Non Invasive ventilation such as C.P.A.P and Bipap.M. Monitor equipment control and maintenance programs.N. Give in-service education as assigned by supervisor.O. Conduct Quality Assurance reviews and makes recommendations.P. Assist in evaluations of technicians in use and proficiency of equipment.Q. Take on-call as needed and scheduled.R. Perform clerical duties as required.S. Perform other duties as requested.T. Schedule patient testing.U. Maintains clinical and professional competency based on established standards of practice.V. Perform patient assessments for respiratory care needs.W. Performs EKG and verifies that that there is a cardiology reading.X. Performs Holter Monitors, downloads and verifies interpretation with cardiology.Y. Patient education with Smoking CessationZ. Administers respiratory medications per orders.AA. Assess patients and monitor per protocols.BB. Assists physicians in any Respiratory Modalities.CC. Clean respiratory equipment including c-mac blades.DD. Provide Oxygen tanks to the hospital.EE. Check assigned crash carts.FF. Cardiac Event Monitor, EEG as assigned.GG. Setup and download Home Sleep Test, verify inspection.HH. Routine oxygen and high flow heated O2 therapy administration.II. Perform home oxygen assessment and qualification.JJ. Arterial Blood Gas Collection.Other ResponsibilitiesAll other responsibilities as assigned in accordance with qualifications.Job QualificationsEducation:Required: Graduate of an approved N.B.R.C. Program, accredited by COARC.Experience:Required: N/A.Preferred: 1 year experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist.Certification/Licensure/Registration:Required: Registry-Eligible Respiratory Therapist, Current BLS certification,Current PA RCP License.Must attain Certified Respiratory Therapist credential 6 months within date of hire.Must attain Registered Respiratory Therapist credential within 1 year of date of hire.Preferred: Registered Respiratory Therapist, Current ACLS, PALS.
