- Develop, implement and measure the effectiveness of a comprehensive safety program for the organization focused on incident prevention
- Monitor effectiveness of performance improvement efforts, with emphasis on both leading and trailing indicators
- Lead and oversee all aspects of development, implementation, standardization (where appropriate), and management of the Company’s DOT Compliance Programs, and Coast Guard Compliance programs
- Ensure compliance with all safety-related regulatory requirements, Federal, State, and Local regulations, OSHA standards, and EPA requirements
- Coach and counsel bus/boat operators to ensure continued improvement and compliance with regulations
- Conduct incident investigations, root-cause analysis, follow-up, and closure of action items
- Leverage learning across the organization for all accidents involving Company personnel and/or equipment
- Support workers’ compensation cases
- Perform audits on bus operators and partner with Operations to identify/recommend process and procedural improvements, as needed
- Designs, develops, and presents technical and supervisory safety training programs
- Perform safety inspections of various company locations including maintenance facilities, satellite offices, and bus/ boat yards
- Provide weekly performance dashboard
- Other duties as assigned.
- Degree in an applicable discipline
- 10+ years of safety leadership experience, preferably in the transportation industry
- Experience dealing with governmental agencies like DOT, OSHA and their regulations
- Sound knowledge of concepts, practices, and industry trends related to safety management and prevention techniques
- Experience with designing and implementing a safety program
- Strong data analysis and presentation skills
- Able to perform root cause analysis and present logical conclusions
- Able to establish and maintain effective collaborative working relationships with management and employees
- Understanding of ongoing FMCSA and DOT policy changes
- Possess an active Commercial Drivers' License with Passenger Endorsement
- Able to establish priorities and manage workload
- Experience with various productivity, project management and financial suites like Google Workspace, MSOffice, Monday.com, ClickUp.com, SAP, Netsuite etc.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Former experience as a trainer (preferred)
- Experience managing a union workforce (preferred)
- A complete driver’s history report from the Division of Motor Vehicle Commission must be provided
