- High school completion or equivalent. Technical School is a plus.
- Valid Driver's License with class E endorsement & 3 years driving experience required. CDL B preferred.
- Minimum 3 years' experience as a trailer mechanic.
- Proficiency in the use of Apple iPhone/mobile devices, navigation of mobile applications and use of email to document repairs and communication.
- Willingness to work varied schedules and work outdoors/in the elements at terminal yards/locations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, multi-task and apply initiative.
- Positive attitude, safety conscious, good instincts, and self-motivation.
- All drivers are to possess only one valid driver's license issued by the resident state of the driver; Operators who have recently transferred from another state must produce a copy of the former license or provide license information for verification from that state; Drivers will need to provide information on all licenses held within the previous 36 months.
- No record of citation or conviction of any DUI/OWI or Reckless Driving within the previous 5 years.
- Must have and maintain an acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
- Must pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination and functional screen.
- Must consent to a pre-employment drug screen; Dohrn Transfer must receive a negative result.
- Dohrn Transfer must receive a negative controlled substances and alcohol result from prior employer(s) for the past three-year period; No prior evidence of controlled substance use.
- There must be no instance of refusal to submit to an alcohol or controlled substance test within the past three-year period, including pre-employment testing.
- Must consent to a 10-year check on work history; Gaps of 30 days or more must be listed and explained; documentation may be requested; Discrepancies may prevent applications from being processed or withdrawal of the job offer.
- Must have the ability to read and write the English language and also perform simple mathematical calculations.
- Inspect the vehicle for defects and safe operating conditions as required by law and company policy.
- Maintain company's issued service truck, conduct safety checks and pre/post trip inspections.
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT Inspections and routine follow up repairs 53' van trailers in a mobile/field environment, including heated Carrier engines on upfitted trailers.
- Accurately complete DOT forms and all other forms of documentation in timely fashion
- Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
- Use basic hand tools, precision instruments, as well as power tools, welding equipment, and jacks.
- Dismantle and reassemble equipment.
- Enter labor lines and parts into repair order computer system.
- React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Work with a high degree of independence and manage own daily schedule.
- Maintain a high level of productivity and be able to work within or close to most standard repair times.
- Repair, replace and adjust necessary units and parts.
- Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for the repairs to be performed.
- Manage parts inventory and equipment provided on a service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
- Communicate with Dohrn Transfer management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair.
- Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, to include OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
- Participate and complete all-in company required safety training.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with assigned operations staff and vendors as needed. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Perform all duties in accordance with company policies and procedures, and comply with all Federal, State, and local regulations for the safe operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Travel to other company shop locations when staff is needed.
- React to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
- Overtime may be necessary during peak periods; Must be able to work a varied schedule or travel based on need.
- Heavy work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force frequently to lift, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, and 100+ lbs. on an occasional basis.
- Subject to both internal and external environmental conditions: work occurs inside and outside; Outside work may be in extreme weather conditions.
- Subject to: standing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and reaching for sustained periods of time.
- Subject to noise: there is sufficient noise to require shouting to be heard above the ambient noise level.
- Subject to hazards: includes a variety of physical working conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and exposure to chemicals.
- Subject to atmospheric conditions: one or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, and gases.
- Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operate machines and motor vehicles.
- The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication of parts at distances close to the eye.
