The show is planning for a late fall opening with load-in and creation through spring and summer 2024. Please note that there may be exceptional delays in this recruitment process as these positions will be staffed gradually. We thank you for your understanding.We are looking for a Technician to join our Carpentry/Props Team. The main objective of this role is to run multiple show tracks in an efficient and safe manner, in accordance with Cirque du Soleil standards and policies. They will also need to accomplish daily maintenance, inspections and training per the artistic schedule. All Technicians will be expected to work with other departments to accomplish the daily needs of the room. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to critically analyze problems to find solutions and will have strong organization skills.The Carpenter/Prop Technician will:- Run cue tracks to position scenic elements, props and related equipment as directed for performances, artist training and maintenance;- Inspect, maintain and repair stage equipment and props, and update maintenance and inspection records; complete projects, as assigned by management;- Maintain cue track documentation and participate in cue track rotation to run the performances, rehearsals, and trainings;- Assist with inventory by identifying any additional equipment that may be required and communicate with Lead when necessary;- Develop a thorough knowledge of all carpentry and Prop department equipment specific to the production in order to operate equipment safely;- Participate in special projects, including the research, purchasing, construction and installation of new show elements, and other projects that may fall within the department's specialty, as directed; Maintain flexible schedule for such projects;- Work with technical management to establish and maintain training and backup plans to ensure continuity of performance operations of the department in the event of unexpected failure of a system, component or piece of equipment;- Assist the Technical Director and Production Services in the development and implementation of preventative maintenance routines and inspections - particularly Life Safety and Show Critical;- Ensure all departmental designs, equipment, systems, functions, procedures, show tracks, maintenance and inspections logs, special projects, etc. are properly and adequately documented;- Adhere to and promote all Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations as they pertain to the safe operation of all elements related to the show; participate in all required health and safety classes and emergency rescue procedure training;- Contribute to a safe and positive working environment at all times by adhering to and following all Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group standards, values, policies and regulations pertaining to safety using equipment and established working methods;- Assist other departments when necessary for cross-departmental support;- Complete all other job-related duties as assigned.The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:- At least two years of previous experience as a professional Stage Technician working on large-scale productions; Previous experience working as a run crew technician and running show cue tracks;- Interpersonal skills to deal effectively with all business contacts;- Professional appearance and demeanor;- Previous experience working with maintenance programs an asset;- Previous experience with wood and metal construction, molding/casting, vacuum-forming, hand sewing, use of adhesives, welding, mechanical and pneumatic;- Creative thinking ability to use and modify off the shelf items;- Scenic and faux paining skills an asset;- Ability to operate or train to operate various lifts and heavy equipment;- Working knowledge of MS Office: Word, Excel and Outlook; Experience working with AutoCAD/Vectorworks/Solidworks an asset;- Knowledge of basic theatrical rigging, basic mechanics, electricity and electronics is an asset;- Fluent in English, both written and spoken;- High School Diploma or equivalent;- Ability to obtain OSHA 10 course completion card;- Availability to work varied shifts, including weekends and holidays;- Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time; lifting at least 50lbs unassisted, etc.; Full list of essential functions will be sent in the offer.
