- Oversee and guide the reporters on a given shift, making sure work is properly prioritized and executed at a high level.
- Assist the Director with supervisory tasks that include coordinating with other desks, scheduling staff, training new team members and overseeing interns and news associates.
- Use digital forensic tools and traditional reporting techniques to verify and provide critical context around information, photos and videos.
- Interview sources for stories and identify eyewitnesses and potential guests for NBC News.
- Employ strong writing skills, with a history of bylines or previously published pieces, to pitch and write occasional stories for NBCNews.com, Today.com and other platforms.
- Collaborate with NBC News digital and broadcast units on newsgathering initiatives, investigative stories, news documentaries and other special projects.
- At least 5 years working in a news operation where the candidate used social newsgathering and/or visual forensics skills
- Undergraduate degree, preferably with some experience in journalism, political science, English, international affairs, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to discover, verify and understand stories and content circulating on social platforms
- Experience assigning and overseeing the work of fellow team members.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, as well as attention to detail
- Must be willing and able to work flexible hours including evenings/late hours and weekends
