Hours per Pay Period: 0.01 = per diem (Non-Exempt)
Starting Wage DOE: $17.38 - 20.42The Communication Specialist coordinates all aspects of the air ambulance flights and the ground regional transports for the flight team. Responsibilities include receiving referral calls, notifying pilots and medical crew, and coordination with the medical control physician, referring physician and referring health care facility.Essential Job Functions
- Supports and models behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic's mission, vision, values, code of business conduct and service expectations. Meets all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency standards as it relates to the environment, employee, patient safety or job performance.
- Coordinates the most efficient use of the ground regional and fixed wing services that requires close coordination with referring facilities. Considers the appropriateness of care based on the age of the patient. (Patient Care, Transportation, Coordinates Transportation)
- Responsible for the communication network for the staff. Relays, transfers and takes incoming messages from allied health providers, public safety personnel or the public. (Patient Service, Communication, Flight Team)
- Develops and maintains records and a variety of reports. Responsible to complete other activities assigned by leadership, which may include charge reports, past volume analysis, etc. (Administrative Support, Clerical, Flight Team Records Management)
- Provides ground regional and air ambulance price quotes, working closely with the Patient Accounts Office to ensure appropriate reimbursement and pre-authorizations. (Patient Service, Pre-Authorization, Air Transportation Price Quotes)
- Performs data entry for all charges related to ground regional and air ambulance transports. (Resource Management, Administrative Support, Data Entry-Transport Charges)
- Notifies management of any unusual occurrences or deviations, actions or conduct which reflects unfavorably upon the image or services rendered by Billings Clinic including but not limited to, deviation from the standard practices and policies.
- Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization. The night dispatch personnel will work in the role of ICU monitor clerk when not dispatching flights.
EducationHigh school graduate or equivalentOther Minimum Qualifications
- Previous EMS experience, preferred
- Previous unit clerk/monitor clerk experience, preferred
- Electronic telephone system experience, preferred
- Completion of a medical terminology course, preferred
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience relating to the above tasks, knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
