Position Summary:The Biologist is responsible for helping develop innovative therapies for the treatment of inflammatory and autoimmune diseases and their associated complications using cell based assays and molecular biology techniques.Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Understand cell and molecular biology to establish cell-based assays and facilitate the identification and characterization of targets that play a role in inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.
  • Establish and run cell-based assays (in both primary cells and immortalized cell lines) followed by analysis of mRNA (qPCR) and protein levels (Western blot and ELISA) in cells, supernatant, and tissues.
  • Execute a wide variety of established molecular biology techniques including (PCR, DNA sequencing, PBMC isolation, ELISA, Biochemical assays, Western blot, Protein extractions, Flow Cytometry)
  • Perform various mammalian cell culture techniques and transfections
  • Data interpretation & troubleshooting/optimization of predefined methods
  • Ability to use GraphPad Prism and Excel
  • Record data in electronic notebooks
  • Data presentation during regular staff meetings
  • General lab maintenance
Skills & Proficiencies:
  • Desired skills and daily activities would include, but are not limited to, cell culture (of both primary and immortalized cell lines), qPCR, ELISAs, Western blotting, transfections.
  • Ability to isolate immune cell isolation from whole blood.
  • Self-starter capable of working independently and directing their own day-to-day workload with minimal supervision.
  • Strong written and oral communications skills to communicate the science with others
Education and Experience:
  • Degree Requirement: Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of molecular biology experience (either through an industry or academic research position)
  • Experience in data analysis and results interpretation
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of above.
