Job DescriptionClevleand-Cliffs is seeking a welder at our Minorca Mine location. Perform craftsman-level welding using various types of gas and electric welding and burning equipment, cleaning tools, shields, safety equipment, welding fixtures, etc.Summary of Responsibilities:
  • Perform work necessary to repair and install equipment such as cutting, welding, brazing, babbitting, fitting, aligning, riveting, threading, chipping, etc.
  • Plan, layout, fit, and weld materials using support tools such as work orders, standard jobs, blueprints, sketches, welding procedures, maintenance manuals, and other documents related to the Engineering specifications.
  • Safely and competently perform repairs on a wide variety of equipment, piping, structural and support steel, pumps, process fans, motors, hydraulic systems, compressors, ventilation fans, air receivers, conveyor installations, chutes, etc. both inside and outdoor applications in a 24/7 environment.
  • Receive verbal and/or written instructions from Supervision in the form of work orders, permits to work, hot work, confined space and isolation procedures to safely complete work, including paperwork and feedback to Supervision on execution of tasks.
  • Perform troubleshooting, identify and select and/or communicate to planning correct tools and materials for ad-hoc or unplanned maintenance activities.
  • Operates equipment for testing purposes. Analyzes mechanical failures and determines repairs.
  • Safely perform basic rigging using slings, chain falls, and other common lifting devices.
  • Operates drill presses, threading machines and cut-off saws as required.
  • Operate trucks, forklifts, cranes and elevated work platforms as required to facilitate work. Works in shop or field as required.
  • Inspects and keeps tools and work area in clean and orderly condition.
  • Prepares and provides reports as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Two-year welding degree or a certified apprenticeship program plus two years of hands-on welding experience (after graduation). Extensive welding experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree; Human Resource Reserves the right to determine qualifications.
  • Ability to pass a position specific written and practical assessment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience within an industrial production environment.
