- Leads, reports, and serves on hospital committees as appointed.
- Collaborating with the Educator and Director for Surgical Services to create and implement the annual competency program for all employee roles within surgical services.
- Delegates and/or performs yearly employee evaluations.
- Develops and /or supervises the staff's schedule.
- Performing the discipline of employees as needed to assure compliance to meet standards of quality patient care.
- Performing and/or monitoring weekly functions of KRONOS as needed in the absence of the timekeeper.
- Works with Same-Day Surgery and the Post Anesthesia Care Unit to ensure quality, timely, and effective patient flow.
- Implements processes to hinge on the improvement strategies for enhanced departmental functioning.
- Assists with controlling labor cost by adjusting staffing patterns.
- Assessable to staff through the open door policy related to staff issues or concerns.
- Works with Quality Management and Environmental Services Directors to ensure that the clinical area is appropriately maintained.
- Assists the Director with the development of policies/procedures/job descriptions of the operating room and Forrest General Hospital.
- Responsible for monitoring clinical staff for compliance with facility policies and practices, procedures, and quality program.
- Supervises and guides the Equipment and Supply Supervisor to assist with maintaining proper maintenance of equipment, inventory levels, and cost containment practices.
- Collaborates with the OR educator for employee orientation and annual competency checkoffs.
- Handles OTIS reports of the operating room clinical variances and coordinates with Director, Quality and Risk Manager as required.
- Communicates clinical practice variances of all employees and physicians to the Director and administration in a timely manner.
- Communicates with staff through Huddles, staff meetings, and emails.
- Exhibits necessary professional, technical, or specialized expertise and skills required for the role of the peri-operative nurse following AORN and other regulatory standards of practice.
- Facilitates communication and collaboration among unit staff and other departments and units regarding issues related to patient care.
- Counsels employees on performance issues administer initial corrective actions, collaborates in monitoring attendance issues.
- Demonstrates expertise to manage the OR board as needed, inclusive of making assignments and adjusting to the dynamic workflow.
- Manages staff to ensure participation at competency events, staff meetings, and educational opportunities.
- Displays the experience to interpret data to improve patient care, decrease patient or staff risks,
- Follows and meets the State and Federal Guidelines to include the DNV standards are applied within all areas of responsibility.
- Oversees Surgery staff in planning, implementing, and evaluating the delivery of patient care according to identified patients needs.
- Communicates with other hospital departments, as necessary, to resolve operational problems and exhibit effective use of hospital resources while delivering quality patient care.
- Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities including promoting situational awareness, assisting with audits as needed, and using teachable moments to guide employees.
- Implements opportunities to restrict exposure to infectious pathogens and communicable conditions, and to promote a safe and confidential atmosphere for the patient and staff.
- Demonstrates interpersonal skills and competency in leadership, supervision, and management of staff.
- Fosters employee engagement by demonstrating active listening, requesting and acknowledging feedback, making equitable decisions, providing rationale when appropriate, and supporting departmental and organizational goals.

- Graduate of a recognized non-online RN program with a Bachelor’s degree in nursing required.
- Two to five years post-graduate progress in nursing with demonstrated leadership behaviors required.
- Two to five years OR experience required.
- Licensed RN able to practice within the State of MS
