They are what we believe, what customers can expect, and how we deliver.Project OverviewThe Cheniere Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) Project is a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) export facility located on the north shore of Corpus Christi Bay in Gregory, Texas. The 1,000+ acre facility started bulk early works in July 2015 as the first greenfield export facility in the United States. Bechtel has successfully and safely completed construction and it now consists of three operating Trains with an LNG production capacity of approximately 15 million tons per year (MTPA), three LNG storage tanks with combined capacity of 480,000 cubic meters of LNG, 2 Jetty superstructures that can accommodate the world’s largest vessels, and dozens of associated buildings and utilities.Corpus Christi Liquefaction Project Stage 3 (CCL3) is a new phase at the existing CCL facility and will consist of seven midscale liquefaction trains with an LNG production capacity of approximately 10 MTPA and associated infrastructure including utilities. CCL3 will perform all this work predominantly on a direct hire basis with support from only a few specialty and service subcontractors.Position SummaryThe Welding Superintendent will report to the Lead Welding Superintendent and is responsible for supporting the Lead in supervising and directing operations within the welding discipline. Supervises and directs welding craft, subordinate supervisors, and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction performance is following specifications and within schedules and budgets. This is a Day Shift position but the successful candidate must be willing to also work a flexible schedule including split shift or nightshift.Responsibilities
  • Provide ES&H leadership to personnel assigned to their department including but not limited to: preparation and implementation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.
  • Responsible for ensuring the welding commodities, equipment, and consumable gases are staged in assigned areas and are sufficient to support the scheduled work scopes. Provide oversight to ensure compliance according to the project housekeeping, preservation, pipe cleanliness and AQIS procedures and standards. Ensure validation of AQIS records and check sheets as per subcontract procedures.
  • Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches.
  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.
  • Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy. Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within assigned area of responsibility.
  • Review and approve subcontractor equipment/personnel mobilization and demobilization.
  • Plan the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.
  • Monitor the activities of craft to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.
  • Interface with Workforce Services for craft recruitment and training programs.
  • Coordinate with the General Foreman to hire craft labor to execute work.
  • Perform employee reviews and identify training and development opportunities for subordinate welding personnel.
  • Review craft time records using established automated tools.
  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labor and maintaining the 90 day and four-week look ahead schedules for labor and equipment.
  • Prepare reports and forecasts, including summary of construction progress, craft personnel forecasts, and expenditures forecasts.
  • Provide input to quantity tracking applications and report weekly installed quantities to Project Controls.
  • Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures, and instructions within their assigned area(s) of operation.
  • Coordinate and implement established area operational plans.
  • Prepare material requisitions for tools and consumables and coordinate through Procurement to obtain these materials.
  • Assist in performing construction testing as required.
  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.
Basic Qualifications
  • University/B.S degree in Engineering or Construction Management plus 6 years of experience or 10 years of equivalent industry experience in-lieu of a degree.
  • Must have knowledge and understanding of Bechtel's SWPP 4MP-T81-03700 series for welding & NDE, 03502 U/G Pipe, 03503 A/G Pipe, 03504 Pipe Supports, 03505 Pipe System Cleanliness, 03506 Pressure Testing of Pipe, 03510 Insulation, ASME B31.1, and Boiler Code Pipe.
  • Must have extensive experience and practical skills for SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and FCAW welding processes.
  • Heavy industrial direct hire construction experience commensurate with the type of work to be undertaken.
  • Experience in oil, gas, refinery, petrochemical, minerals processing or power generating station construction is preferred.
  • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheets, and database applications.
  • Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving ability.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate team members effectively & positively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to problem-solve in high pressure situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience on an LNG construction site along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
  • Understanding of applicable Bechtel work processes including Standard Work Process Procedures.
  • Familiarity with Bechtel Standard Applications (BSAPs) including Unifier, Aconex, DSCS, PTR, Agile, Navisworks, WITs, Teamworks, Arc Stryker, PipeFighter, and other automation tools used on Bechtel projects.
Additional InformationWork requires the physical ability to conduct field inspections including but not limited to: extensive walking in and around a construction site often in high heat and high humidity conditions, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, working on elevated platforms, working on uneven surfaces, and working in small or confined spaces. Some lifting may be required. Must have the ability to walk into and out of the project (enter/egress).
