The SC State Housing Finance and Development Authority (SC Housing) helps families across the state obtain affordable, safe housing. Our staff is passionate about creating solutions that truly make a difference in the lives of others! We are seeking a dynamic, enthusiastic paralegal. Under limited supervision of General Counsel, this position:
  • Performs specialized and complex duties for the Legal Division
  • Interacts and communicates with staff within other departments of the Authority on behalf of General Counsel
  • Assists SC Housing Attorneys and outside Bond Counsel with bond transactions
  • Interacts and communicates with external Bond Counsel and appropriate governmental entities
  • Schedules meetings and hearings with both internal and external parties
  • Schedules Section 8 and Partial Claims hearings
  • Assists the attorneys in the Legal Division to prioritize and complete legal work product in a timely and accurate manner
  • Drafts responses to foreclosure actions for attorney review and subsequently e-files with the proper court
  • Provides additional administrative support functions, such as assistance with Board Meetings for the Executive Director's Office as needed
  • Respond and process Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Requests
  • Keep files organized and accessible
Agency minimum qualifications* :
A high school diploma and paralegal experience performing delegated, substantive legal work.
  • Candidates must specifically meet the Agency Minimum Requirements or an equivalent
combination of education and experience to be considered for this position.Additional requirements:
  • Excellent computer skills in all Microsoft Office products with an emphasis on Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Must be detail oriented, with the ability to organize multiple tasks, establish priorities, meet strict deadlines and provide excellent customer service. Exercise good judgment and discretion.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Applies sound judgment to determine proper course of action
  • Must have knowledge of FOIA laws and the processing of FOIA Requests
  • Ability to anticipate and be proactive
  • Must have knowledge of legal research and interpretation of legal documents
  • A knowledge of the policies and procedures of SC Housing
  • A knowledge of court procedures and e-filing
  • A knowledge of legal terminology
  • Strong organization and proofreading/editing skills
  • Must meet strict deadlines
Must be able to lift and carry files, books, and reports weighing up to 20 lbs. Must be able to perform filing, desk work, and operate general office equipment. Must be able to sit or stand for prolonged or intermittent periods of time while sharing, gathering, or presenting information to other staff members or external parties. The employee must be able to perform these tasks with or without reasonable accommodations.   • Paralegal certificate, an Associate degree in paralegal studies, or equivalent through work experience.
  • Knowledge of single family and multi-family bond transactions
