Job DescriptionThe City of Appleton Parks and Recreation Department is proud to offer our VIP~ Junior Leader Program. This program is intended to offer young adults who are 14 years of age and older with an opportunity to gain both experience and knowledge of the skills it takes to become a leader.Examples of DutiesVIP Junior Leader's will assist the Playground Leaders in setting a positive example for younger children.Typical QualificationsTo be a Junior Leader there are certain expectations to follow and various duties that may need to be completed.
  • Responsible to the Playground Leaders and the Program Coordinator.
  • Responsible for planning and implementing various sports, arts and crafts, and other assigned activities as well as participation in the activities at a specified park within the City of Appleton.
  • Responsible for the safety of all participants during the scheduled hours.
  • Assist in taking daily attendance and ensuring all participants have emergency information on file.
  • Responsible for wearing appropriate clothing including provided staff shirt.
  • Responsible for following and implementing the approved discipline policy.
  • Responsible for following and enforcing all park rules.
  • Must be courteous and polite to parents and children.
  • Must be available for training prior to the program starting date
  • Help keep park clean: pick up garbage, sweep/mop shelter floors, etc.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Minimum 14 years of age
  • Experience working with kids preferable in teaching or coaching setting.
  • Energetic and enthusiastic individual.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Ability to plan, implement, and participate in a wide range of activities (sports, arts and crafts, etc.).
  • Ability to supervise children 6-13 yrs. old.
Must commit to a minimum of 6 (six) hours per week. The program runs from Wednesday, June 12 - Tuesday, August 13Orientation will be approximately 2-hours on Tuesday, June 11.
