The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Department of Psychiatry’s Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care invites outstanding scientists with a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Genetics, or Neuroscience, who have teaching experience, and a minimum of 2 years of post-graduate experience to apply. The department welcomes applications from individuals who may have nontraditional career path or who have achieved excellence in careers outside of academia.This is an ideal position for an energetic individual who wants to apply cutting-edge technology to clinical neuroscience research with the ultimate goal to impact patient care in conjunction with other CDRC faculty and national and international colleagues from other institutions, the successful candidate will develop research projects that apply novel single-cell and molecular approaches to identify biological and therapeutic targets in clinical psychiatry, with particular attention to depression. This position will also liaise with internal and external collaborators to facilitate research projects, including but not limited to sample exchange and associated regulatory agreements, identification of research analysis techniques and laboratories that may complete these analyses, and quality control of analyses and data collection. The ideal candidate has familiarity with a broad base of laboratory analyses, which may include single-cell technologies, genomics, and microbiome-immune signaling. The ideal candidate will also understand clinical diagnosis of psychiatric disorders, specifically Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) and related conditions, and clinical workflow related to the variety of treatments available for MDD. Expertise with bioinformatics and computational science would be an asset.The department offers exceptional start-up packages and an intellectually engaging community with a demonstrated track record of supporting and mentoring junior faculty. Candidates will be expected to work within the multidisciplinary team to further the research priorities of the Center for Depression Research and Clinical Care, including study oversight, grant development, and data interpretation and manuscript preparation. Successful candidates will have an outstanding postdoctoral record and the potential to develop a vigorous research program. Appointment rank will be commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience.
