It is also of paramount importance to us that we continue to foster an environment of diversity, equity, and inclusion as we build a school community of individuals who are an actual representation of the world in which we live.Position OverviewThe Learning Specialist supports students encountering academic difficulties by working with students, teachers, and families to devise and coordinate plans for accommodations, strategies, and remediation using the school and outside resources. The Learning Specialist collaborates closely with the classroom teachers, the counselor, the administration, and the parents.Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 academic coaching, small group instruction, and push-in support in classrooms
  • Support students in developing study skills, organization skills & reading and writing skills in French
  • Consult with teachers and parents to interpret and report screenings/evaluation results, make recommendations for further outside evaluation or support, ensure adhesion to mandated accommodations, recommend additional strategies for the classroom or at home, and provide specific referrals, as needed
  • Support teachers by offering resources, assistance, advice, and training to enable Faculty to better meet the needs of all learners
  • Administer initial psycho-educational screening of students referred by teachers or parents for academic concerns
  • Liaison between parents and outside support services
  • Manage all accommodation needs for standardized tests and assessments
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor degree and/or professional coursework or certification indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position
  • Experience working as a Learning Specialist in a school or in private practice
  • Experience with administering and interpreting screening/testing instruments
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Excellent communication skills
