The Site Safety Manager manages their time and overall jobsite safety with an impeccable attention to detail. As SSM, you will be knowledgeable about the construction sequence to provide input and guidance on safe work practices and documents such as the APPS and AHAs, which consist of work plans, procedures, and organization necessary to produce a safe end product which complies with the USACE EM 385-1-1 and federal, state, local laws, ordinances, criteria, rules and regulations. You are responsible to ensure a safe working environment for every person on the project site and maintain compliance with approved APPS, AHAs, USACE EM 385-1-1 and federal, state, local laws, ordinances, criteria, rules and regulations. The SSM also implements the written procedures and instructions contained in the Approved Accident Prevention Plans & Accident Hazard Analysis. This position will be on a federal construction project.Among other duties that may be assigned from time to time, the SSM performs the following tasks:
  • Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log (safety and health deficiency tracking system/log) which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections. Attach safety inspection logs to the Contractors' daily quality control report.
  • Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports. Report mishaps and near misses.
  • Use and maintain the OSHA Form 300 to log work-related injuries and illnesses occurring on the project site for Prime Contractors and subcontractors, and make available to the Contracting Officer upon request. Post and maintain the Form 300A on the site Safety Bulletin Board.
  • Maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site.
  • Attend the pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings including preparatory inspection meeting, and periodic in-progress meetings.
  • Review and develop the APP and AHAs for compliance with the EM 385-1-1, and approve, sign, implement, and enforce them.
  • Establish a Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Deficiency Tracking System that lists and monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution.
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
  • Maintain a list of hazardous chemicals on site and their material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Maintain a weekly list of high hazard activities involving energy, equipment, excavation, entry into confined space, and elevation, and be prepared to discuss details during QC Meetings.
  • Provide and keep a record of site safety orientation and indoctrination for Contractor employees, subcontractor employees, and site visitors.
Minimum Training Certifications:
  • Valid first Aid/CPR
  • OSHA 30 + EM 385-1-1 Awareness (or 40hr EM 385-1-1)
  • 24hr Fall Protection Competent Person (CP)
Preferred Training Certifications:
  • 16hr Scaffolding CP
  • 2hr Confined Space CP
  • Trenching CP
Minimum Requirements:
  • Degree in Occupational Safety or hold designation of Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • 5 years of continuous construction or general industry in a supervising/managing role (3 yrs. With current ANSI approved Safety Cert. i.e. CSHT, ASP, CSP etc.)
  • 2-3 Years experience in field providing safety duties as Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST) or Construction Safety and Health Technician (CHST)
  • Documented 5-10 years full-time safety experience (100% safe work). List of projects and descriptions of duties where person was full time safety professional.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Power Point
  • Pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test
The salary range for this position is between $100,000 and $150,000 per annum, based on experience and qualifications.Work Environment / Physical Demands: This position works on construction jobsites. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. While performing duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The Noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, and use a computer. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Employee may lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
