Construction Materials Staff EngineerRequisition Number: 2024-1800-09We are looking for a motivated and passionate Construction Materials Staff Engineer to join our Construction Services team in Duluth, Georgia. Join us at S&ME!As a Construction Materials Staff Engineer, you play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of construction projects by assessing and verifying the properties and quality of materials used in construction. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer, you will coordinate field explorations, field logging of soil samples, performing engineering calculations/design, preparation of proposals and reports, and project and client support.Your Day-to-Day:
Reviewing plans and specifications: Ensure alignment with project objectives before field observations.
Documenting field activities: Record detailed observations and testing results during project execution.
Utilizing Metafield® and/or other management systems: Employ daily for efficient data management and coordination.
Calibrating equipment to industry standards: Ensure accuracy and reliability of field and laboratory tools.
Conducting Special Inspection observations: Adhere to IBC guidelines for comprehensive quality checks.
Daily communication: Engage with management, contractors, and clients to maintain project transparency and progress updates.
What You Bring:
A Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering or a closely related field
0-2 years of professional experience
Basic working knowledge of construction plans and specifications
Excellent computer skills, with the ability to learn commercial software applications
A willingness to obtain International Code Council (ICC), American Concrete Institute (ACI), and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications in the fields of aggregate, asphalt, soil, reinforced concrete, and masonry
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment such as:
Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
Walking over rough and uneven terrain
Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
