- Prepares all welding procedures meeting ASME, AWS, ABS and NAVSEA code requirements.
- Establishes welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel relating to specification restrictions, material processes, pre and post heating requirements which involve use of special fabrication methods and welding of critical joints.
- Improves existing welding procedures through review of customer requirements, existing fabrication techniques, and new market technology.
- Evaluates new developments in welding field for possible application to current welding problems or production processes.
- Contacts personnel of other agencies, engineering personnel, or clients to exchange ideas, information, or offer technical advice concerning welding matters
- Develop Procedure Qualification Records dictated by production needs and forecasting as directed by the Quality Assurance Manager in accordance with the applicable codes.
- Optimizes the welding processes, procedures and equipment for minimum fabrication costs.
- Evaluates suppliers welding procedures for technical adequacy and code conformance for specific job application.
- Obtains internal and/or external interpretation and modification to all welding codes used as production necessitates.
- Manages data base for welders, tackers, brazers, welding and brazing operator’s performance qualifications relative to original certification and quarterly recertification.
- Must be willing to travel between Portland Fab. Facilities.
- Conduct training for metal joining trades in code and procedure requirements as required by contract.
- Candidate has experience in operating and programing robotic welding equipment.
- Evaluates skills and measures results of production workers, recognizes success and coaches individuals and teams where performance improvement is warranted. Provides feedback to the relevant PM
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: NDT certification in accordance with ASNT or CWI certification is recommended.INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS: This position requires daily inbound and outbound communications with current and potential customers. These interactions are centered on the complexity of the scope of work to be done/being performed and require a skilled touch to make sure the outcome either guarantees the work will be assigned or that it is completed in a way that encourages future business will be assigned. Work with the Estimating Manager can be based around project bid review and outside sales efforts.KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skill, both oral and written for constant interaction with all departments and employee levels, and outside customers.
- Must be a well-organized, detail and customer (internal and external) oriented self-starter.
- Ability to read and comprehend work specifications, work orders, blueprints, contracts and technical publications.
- Must have working knowledge of shipyard production and administrative procedures, and government and industrial regulations.
- Must have the ability to use Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Access and database programs.
- Specific knowledge of quality system standards
- 4-year BS in related field,
- Minimum (3-6) years of experience in engineering, welding, NDE, and/or QC.
