TITLE: Upward Bound Summer Program InstructorDEPARTMENT: Upward BoundREPORTS TO: Director of Upward BoundEFFECTIVE DATE: TBDEMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-TimeEMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-ExemptPRINCIPAL PURPOSE OF JOB:Upward Bound serves high school students from low-income families; high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor's degree; and low-income, first-generation military veterans who are preparing to enter postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the rate at which participants complete secondary education and enroll in and graduate from institutions of postsecondary education.Upward Bound is seeking instructors to teach Math, English, Science, and Foreign Language at the high school or college level for the six (6) week summer program. The program provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits.SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:1. Establish key objectives for classes2. Implement curriculum for courses in the upward bound program that are in alignment with state and local curriculum requirements and areas of focus3. Develop a syllabus for the 6-week summer program that outlines topics that will be explored and lists due dates for assignments and exams4. Create lesson plans, that describe how the information will be presented5. Participate as a chaperone at educational events6. Give lectures and organize activities to present material and deepen understanding of coursework7. Provide academic feedback and counseling to participants and parents8. Writes, administers, and grades examinations that test students’ knowledge9. Record students’ attendance and grades10. Work closely with UB staff to identify students in need of tutoring and provide materials for tutoring as neededKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in the field they are teaching/Master’s degree preferred
Minimum two year’s teaching experience
Secondary teaching certification in a related field (math, science, English, and foreign language) a plus
Previous experience working with underrepresented students preferred
