- Participate in the development of individual patient and resident treatment plans.
- Assess individual patient/resident interests, needs, skills and limitations to provide input into development of appropriate treatment plans and training programs.
- Plan and direct various rehabilitative activities for individual and group participation in accordance with treatment plans.
- Stimulate patient interest in activities to encourage their participation and progress.
- Advise and reinforce patients on acceptable social behavior.
- Prepare and maintain monthly reports, progress reports and daily documentation, as necessary.
- Evaluate patient and resident progress as measured against treatment goals and objectives.
- One (1) year work experience in rehabilitation services to developmental disabilities, mental handicap, and substance abusers.
- Advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and methods of assessing therapeutic needs and providing rehabilitation services.
- Specialized knowledge of symptoms and limitations of various mental and physical disabilities and ability to plan and execute effective rehabilitation methods.
- Specialized knowledge of laws, rules, regulations and guidelines for the care, treatment, and rights of the mentally challenged.
- Working knowledge of the role of other treatment disciplines such as psychology, social work, dietetics and nursing and ability to integrate the disciplines into overall treatment plan.
- Ability to formulate and implement individual treatment plans and rehabilitation programs and ensure the effective execution of plans and programs.
- Ability to effectively assess and document patient needs and progress.
- Ability to appropriately change or amend treatment plans to meet patient needs.
- Effective communication skills.
- Must obtain CPR and CPI certification, demonstrate ability to perform techniques, and maintain certification throughout employment.
