DescriptionOPEN RECRUITMENTSALARY RANGE: $55,314.00 - $70,751.00/annualLOCATION SPECIFIC RECRUITMENT: Applicants will only be considered if willing to work in one or more of the following locations Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Cecil, Charles, Harford, Prince George's Counties and/or Baltimore CityThe Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) owns, operates, and maintains eight major toll facilities comprised of four bridges, two tunnels, and two turnpikes across the State of Maryland. For over 50 years, the MDTA has provided Maryland's citizens and visitors with safe, secure, and convenient transportation facilities. We are committed to quality and excellence in customer service, and we rely on our organization's values, traditions and - most importantly - our employees to achieve these goals.Nature of Work: This is the journey level of repair and maintenance work on motor vehicles, diesel-powered equipment and/or construction/maintenance equipment. Employees are responsible for performing routine repair work, standard preventive maintenance services, and assisting with major automotive repairs. Employees receive general supervision from a Heavy Equipment Maintenance Supervisor or other designated supervisor.Employees in this classification are considered essential employees and are subject to being on call 24 hours a day, as may be required to maintain the continuous operation of a facility. Employees must provide the agency with a telephone number where they can be reached. In the event of hazardous weather or highway conditions, employees will be called to duty during off-hours to maintain and repair equipment. This is maintenance work requiring physical exertion that is performed either outdoors under all weather conditions or inside a building. On some assignments, employees may be required to move objects weighing over 50 pounds.MDTA employees are offered a generous benefits package including: a minimum of 11 paid holidays, a minimum of 27* days of leave annually (personal, vacation, and sick), access to the State Pension System, deferred compensation plans, excellent health, dental, and vision plans, and more! *May be prorated based upon start date.QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.Experience: Three (3) years of experience servicing, maintaining, and repairing motor vehicles, gasoline and/or diesel engines, or heavy-duty construction equipment. One (1) year of the required experience must include servicing and repairing heavy-duty construction equipment and diesel engines.Your placement on an eligible list may be based solely on the contents of your application; therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information. 1. Applicants may substitute additional documented and relevant experience repairing, servicing, and maintaining automobiles, trucks, buses or comparable equipment on a year-for-year basis for the required education.2. Completion of an accredited training program for Heavy Equipment or Diesel Repair may be substituted for one and one-half years of the general experience. The accrediting body for the training program must be listed on the U.S. Department of Education's Database of Accredited Postsecondary Institutions and Programs.3. U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as defined under the Minimum Qualifications may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience.4. Certification as a Technician by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for two years of the required education. (The two years of experience used to qualify for ASE testing is considered an integral part of this substitution and cannot also be considered separately to meet Education or Experience5. Certification as a Master Technician in one or more subject areas by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) can be substituted for the required education.Licenses & Certifications1. Employees are assigned duties that require the operation of motor vehicles. Employees will be required to possess and maintain a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland as a condition of employment. Employees are required to possess and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) valid in the State of Maryland during the probationary period, depending on the type of equipment operated.3. Employees in this class may be required to obtain Special Commercial Driver's License Endorsements for Hazardous Materials and Tank Vehicles depending on the type of equipment operated.4. Employees must satisfy the first level of the employing administration's certification program during the probationary period. Failure to satisfy the first level of qualifications within the stated time will be considered grounds for dismissal.5. Employees who are required to function in the capacity of Commercial Vehicle Inspector may be required to obtain and maintain their Commercial Vehicle Inspector's License.Additional InformationSpecial Requirements:1. Employees must be available for duty, day or night, as may be required in order to maintain continuous operation of a facility.2. Employees are subject to being on call 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call back requirements.3. Employees who work with or may be exposed to hazardous materials such as asbestos, lead-based paint or chromium may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and can wear a respirator.4.
