Job Posting End Date: Until FilledShift: ALLSecurity Clearance: No ClearanceJob SummaryWelds shell plating, fabricated cast or forged components according to specifications for vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.Qualifications StandardsPrevious experience or training is required. Must be able to qualify in two gas shielded FCAW welding processes 71T-1 and 811N3 in the three positions. Knowledge of welding characteristics of metal. Must be able to work at heights, confined spaces, and any assigned shift. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions (in English). Must be able to hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warnings.Essential Job Tasks
  • Welds parts in position for fabrication of vessels, tanks or other structural assemblies.
  • Uses carbon electrodes to cut, shape and groove metal.
  • May prepare workplace for welding by cleaning and/or preheating.
  • Examines weld sizes of weld beads.
  • Cleans weld area; sweeps and removes scrap.
  • Other job duties as may be assigned relevant to the trade.
Materials, Tools, Equipment, Work AidsWelding machinery, hand tools, high reach equipment and semi auto equipment. Personal protective equipment required.Physical/Mental InvolvementFrequent to continuous lifting of welding equipment. Standing, balancing, walking, climbing ladders or equipment, reaching above shoulder or out in front, manual dexterity, pushing, pulling, kneeling, bending, seeing, hearing and occasionally lowering self into confined spaces, crawling through small openings and working in reclined positions, as needed. Works in all areas of the shipyard and on board ships. Hearing warning signals and reading and comprehending safety instructions. Must be able to maintain general safety awareness and avoid hazards commonly present in employee’s work area.Marginal Job TasksGeneral housekeeping in work areas. May be required to attend safety, quality and/or process improvement meetings.Environmental FactorsExposure to fumes, odors, dust, gases, various climates and temperatures, and low ventilation conditions, all of which can cause discomfort and/or respiratory difficulties. Exposure to constantly moving machines, mechanical parts, and high levels of constant noise.PAY SCALE$31.37 - $34.72Hourly RolesThis pay range is a reasonable estimate of the hourly range for this role. It takes into account the wide range of factors considered in making compensation decisions; including but not limited to skill sets, experience, training, and education.
