Key Role: This vital coordinating role entails working alongside a Teacher in the Carver Christian Academy to help with instruction, projects, as well as individual student support & discipline in the classroom, and then transitioning to lead the same class in Urban Youth Impact's Leadership Academy afterschool program, that serves to expand the horizons and ambitions of the students through interactive programming in Creative Arts, Fitness and Nutrition and many other areas of involvement. In both roles the CCA Teacher's Assistant/TLA Team Leaders will encourage and equip the student through unconditional love and discipline, to engage in classroom & other activities, and be the best form of themselves behaviorally, morally & spiritually.Key Responsibilities: The factors that define and truly differentiate this position from all other positions; what absolute, unique things this position should fulfill that no other does:CCA Student Instructor
  • Cooperate with CCA Teacher to deliver effective & transformative lessons.
  • Assist CCA Teacher to maintain classroom etiquette & discipline.
  • Review lessons or projects with students on a one-on-one basis or in small groups.
  • Provide on-on-one discipline or spiritual coaching to students, as required.
  • Work with individual students or groups of students, that are falling behind or being disruptive in class.
  • During the Bible hour, teach Bible lessons and provide Biblical insight.
  • Collaborate with Teacher to identify student issues and recommend solutions.
  • Escort students to bathroom or to the counseling office, Library or Dean / Principal's office as requested.
  • Maintain order & discipline during student meal times & outside time.
  • Substitute for the CCA Teacher for particular classes as required by the daily schedule set by the Principal and Dean, or for temporary Teacher absences (you will only be required to perform a long-term substitute teacher role under emergency circumstances).
  • Assist the Teacher to evacuate the classroom or shelter-in-place during drills or a live emergency.
  • Other duties as assigned by CCA Principal or CCA Dean.
TLA Team Leader
  • Help develop and implement age-appropriate learning activities inside the classroom in the Creative Arts, Fitness & Nutrition, a Biblical worldview and practical social interactions with peers and others.
  • Work with TLA leaders to give the students a healthy respect for authority.
  • Help provide creative arts and sciences instruction including lessons, field trips and activities.
  • Help to engage students in EUP's ("Experiencing Unexpected Pathways") through a variety of avenues including fitness, sports, arts, sciences, technology, entertainment and music.
  • Ensure the safety of the students
  • Have ability to appropriately manage student behavior and discipline.
  • Through the TLA leadership, help maintain contact with families regarding the student's needs and progress.
  • Ensure that you classroom is kept orderly and clean on a daily basis.
  • Maintain attendance and performance records, and submit to the CCA/TLA Program Administrator.
  • Attend program related meetings/conferences/workshops.
  • Assist with administrative, programmatic and transportation duties as needed.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the TLA Program Manager.

Qualifications: 2-year or 4-year degree or equivalent experience with youth preferred; reports to the CCA School Principal during school hours & the TLA Program Manager during afterschool program hours; 40-hrs weekly (10:00am - 6:00pm); FLSA non-exempt; applicant needs to have an understanding that UYI is primarily a faith-based organization.All applicants will be required to have or obtain First-Aid/CPR Certification, Driver's physical if over the age 25-years old; all provided and paid for by UYI.All applicants will be required to complete a Level-2 background check.Job Posted by ApplicantPro
